    It's not terrible. If you are looking to hardcore game, yeah, it's pretty outdated. But can still play some games on low settings.

    It's not great, it's not terrible, which would be something that can't play anything, like the old 7000s, low 9000s and GF4 and GFFX mobile chips, or earlier which were truly horrid, as was S3 and SIS' solutions.

    It's still good enough for many games out there to run on low, however, anything new will struggle and many won't even play without moding since they have an SM3.0 minimum spec. And you won't be playing anything from the last year or two at native resolution.

    But you'll probably be able to play about 3/4 or more of the titles on the shelf on low as a minimum spec. You may also want to investigate overclocking too and see what little more you can push out of it (it does make a difference for minimum framerate to smooth out stuttering).

    However the M-R9600 only came out in Spring 2003, it's only 5 years old.

    Yep, mainly because I remember shopping for an IBM T42 Thinkpad the next summer (the summer of D3 - 2004) with an MR9600.

    Here's the M-R9600 launch info from March 2003;

    http://ati.amd.com/companyinfo/press/2003/4621.html

    Laptops didn't ship until much later in the summer.

    Heck the "Evil Goalie" desktop R9600 (which I bought first week) didn't even exist yet in 2000.

    Haha...

    Regarding the MR9700 I've had a couple. It'll play UT2004 maxed, WoW at high, something like need for speed carbon at mid-low. It'll struggle with the new stuff like R6 vegas, GRAW2, Crysis and Bioshock even at lowest.

    What games are you wanting to play?
