I want to buy a new laptop and im thinking of buying a msi GT7 series but there is one with a GTX 570m 3GB graphic card that costs $1699 and the one with GTX 580m 2GB costs $2400
is it really worth spending more for the 580m or is the difference between them almost unnoticeable
-
-
Wouldn't warrent paying that much more imo. The performance difference is incremental, 20-30% at best.
-
I would definitely go for the 570m.

A wise man once said to "go big or go home".
p.s. i would just purchase the cheaper one unless money is not an issue. -
If the only major difference between the two laptop is the GPU, I'll go with the 570m. $700 just to upgrade the GPU one notch higher is too much!
-
I've always been a fan of going for a notch under top-end for computer components. You save far more than you gain and it still gets the job done.
-
For that kind of price difference, 570M is definitely the way to go, 700$ is waaaaay too much for such an upgrade.

alienware is a GREAT laptop, I had owned quite many laptops/desktops and I think this is finally it, I really like this laptop, definitely it is a little overpriced but heck, people keep buying macbookpros for +2k with mainstream compartments, at least we get state-of-the-art hardware in it... I think you should wait until CES 2012, and keep on saving money, then go for the best config alienware around 2.5k, you will use that laptop for at least 2 years and will love it, trust me...

If you wait for the right sale it is not uncommon to get an M17xR3 with 6990 or 580m for $1700. That would be a better laptop than a MSI 570m for the same amount of money.

thks for the comments, im going to try to find a alienware m17 with those espects or i will just get the 570m MSI, if any one could post a link to a alienware sale, i cant find any.

And this one...

If you watch both those threads daily for about a month I bet you will find what you are looking for.
Basically, Alienware can be purchased for 20-25% off MSRP if you wait for the right sale. A m17 is $1500+$150 for 1080p +$375 for 580m = $2025. Subtract 20% and you are at $1600+tax so around $1740. Sometimes they are even less.
My advice is to decide on a price and spec requirements. If you see what you want, buy it. Many times people see a good deal at the outlet, but don't buy. Outlet deals can be hard to get, so buy immediately if it is what you want since it won't be there 5 minutes later. Regular Dell systems are easier but big sales are more rare. -

lots of people bought alienware m17x's with 1080p screens and 6990m's for ~$1600 shipped within a few months ago (once you factor in coupons, discounts etc). The trick is to not order direct via the website. Call them up and negotiate price. Another thing is to order your alienware via a reseller. Expect about a 10% discount if you go through a reseller

Wait a second! There is another model of MSI that came out with the 580 for $2300. Also, please, factor in the fact that the one for $1700 does not have the same hardware as the one for $2300. The one for 2300 has more hard drive space and a blu ray reader as well as having the superior card. :/ You happened to forget to mention that. Also, take into account that the alienware requires 2400 in order to have the same specs as the $2300 from MSI, and that does not come with a blu ray reader. If you could live without the light-up keyboard, you could go with a Sager NP8170 that would cost $2200 or less, depending on what options you want. Links to ALL of these computers:

I've done the sums while ago, exactly when MSI announced the GT700 with GTX580M, you'll end up paying $200 more for the very same specs of MSI's! except the warranty which is 3 years STANDARD and 1 year of accidental warranty in MSI's units!
