I love how this is becoming a fact that we have to live with (-.-)

I thought they fixed this. The Fall Creator's Abortion must have broken it again.

Installed them, no idea why though. Well OK, because supposedly they are Wolfenstein II drivers, but I was gaming fine with whatever old version of drivers I had.
I swear, if I will start having problems I will go full BJ Blazkowicz on nVidia!

It's a 387 branch exclusive problem, anything below that ain't a problem. But for Fall Creator Update I don't believe it is possible to go below 387 without having more problems.

Download all my INF mods from here once it goes live.

    Code:
    # Download nvidiaProfileInspector from here only -> https://ci.appveyor.com/project/Orbmu2k/nvidiaprofileinspector/build/artifacts -> "export all customized profiles" -> leave unchecked "include predefined settings"
    # DDU
    # Disable driver signing
    # 7-Zip -> extracted driver package >> delete folders as shown above (don't skip this step) <<
    # Display.Driver folder -> copy only the corresponding INF file(s) below -> run setup.exe -> custom -> clean install option -> "Installation Successful” -> close installer.
    # nvidiaProfileInspector -> "import profile(s)" -> "refresh current profile".
    # Reboot
    # Nvidia Control Panel -> Change resolution -> "Use Nvidia color settings" -> Manage 3D settings -> Set Performance options.

After DDU restarts from Safe mode into normal mode, do we have to run ddu again for another cleaning before installing the new drivers? it says that in release notes of ddu 1.7

If you're on Fall creators update then you must do it.
First select clean w/o restart option then select Clean and Restart
Note:don't reboot in between driver cleaning.

Do you agree with Vasudev above you that we should clean twice (one without restart and one with restart) before installing new drivers?

And what is DSE disabled mode?

DSE-> Driver Signature Enforcement. Disabling DSE is optional unless you want to use @j95 modded nvidia driver. Otherwise not needed.
Peter Wagnard specifically said that in changelog that on Fall Creators update and above versions needs cleaning twice and they're working to fix that odd bug. You can find me on their forums too.

    What I do:

    1. Uninstall physx. No reboot.
    2. Uninstall HD Audio. Reboot.
    3. Uninstall driver. No auto reboot.
    4. Hold shift key, click on windows icon, click on power and select restart.
    5. Select troubleshoot, advanced, start up options. This should list keys 4 as safe mode and 7 as driver signing enforcement. Click restart.
    6. When you get a blue screen with the list of startup options press 4.
    7. Run DDU clean but no restart.
    8. Repeat step 4.
    9. Repeat step 6 but press 7.
    10. Install modded driver. Reboot.

Uninstalling the driver from CPL removes every SW from nvidia. Simply Enable Safe mode prompt in DDU in Options afterwards close and re-open it.

Everytime I perform a clean driver installation using DDU and after reconnecting to the internet, Windows 10 immediately downloads and installs the May 2017 version 382.05. I used DDU to install the April stable version of 381.89.

    https://pasteboard.co/GRuYwj8.jpg

Under Hardware setting, I already ticked "dont install device drivers" but windows update keeps overriding it.

    How do i stop that?

Disconnect from the Internet before you start the uninstall procedure then reconnect when you've finished installing the updated set.

In Windows 10 Pro and Enterprise, you can use Group Policy Editor to stop WU from automatically updating specific hardware drivers. Link

Another and easiest solution for me is using O&O Shut Up 10. Just disable windows auto update and you can install which ever nvidia driver you want without the stupid windows auto update. If ever there is a windows update and you want that update. Uninstall your nvidia driver 1st using DDU and enable windows update using O&O Shut UP 10. Update windows and it will also install your graphic driver. Once you have finish updating windows. Disable windows update using again using O&O Shut Up 10. Uninstall the graphic driver that windows installed for you using DDU. Then you can install which ever nvidia driver suites you. O&O Shut Up 10 is amazing.

True. The disable driver never works on its own. You must disable all windows update using shut up 10. not just the driver. it works. hehe.. just update manually when needed.. you dont need the windows update on all the time. its a pain in the bum.. ^_^

I don't get the auto driver update/install thing because it doesn't detect a compatible GPU. The 1070 I have, while it works, it's technically not compatible so it doesn't go and find the driver to install :)

Driver gave me horrible stuttering and overall lag followed by a total system crash. Rebooted, same thing. DDU, rolled back to previous drivers and zero issue. Will be avoiding this one.

Hey all. I have been out of the game so to speak for health reasons for a long time and now that I am able to get back into gaming a bit, I have no idea what drivers I should even try. Maxwell, 980m SLI, Windows 8.1 as seen in my sig. And recommendations on a good driver or at least any that I should absolutely avoid? Might grab the new Cod if that matters at all.

Also, I have seen some mention of having to run DDU twice now, is that only for those running Windows 10? I still have an old version of DDU from over a year ago installed. Just looking for a few suggestions and some clarity so I can get back in as smoothly as possible. I appreciate any help you can provide.

From DDU's Readme file. I don't get it why people want run DDU in Normal mode first  Maybe something wrong with me, bruh o_O

    Recommended usage:
-You should disconnect your internet or block Windows Updates.
-DDU should be used when having a problem uninstalling / installing a driver or when switching GPU brand.
-DDU should not be used every time you install a new driver unless you know what you are doing.
-The tool can be used in Normal mode but for absolute stability when using DDU, Safemode is always the best.
-If you are using DDU in normal mode, Clean, reboot, clean again, reboot.
-Make a backup or a system restore (but it should normally be pretty safe).
-It is best to exclude the DDU folder completely from any security software to avoid issues.

I run thrice in safe mode just to be thorough even though DDU removes those said directories in the first place. I love to see the message Cleaning Known Directories and Reg keys...Please wait for a minute or two.

I've always just ran it once in safe mode and never install GFE and never had an issue but saw people acting like things have changed since I last used it so I'd figured I would ask. Thought it might have something to do with Win 10 since I'm staying on 8.1, seems it's all still the same.

Guys be more specific when you list the issues xD.. like what Windows you're using... what games you're playing.. and most important what video card/setup you have (laptop/desktop etc...). DDU does help a bit for a fresh install since I've done GFE method/clean install numerous times and it has given me some graphical issues on some games so now when/if I do update its with DDU.

So far its running fine on my end:

    Games played since install:
The Evil Within 2 - works fine.
    Destiny 2 - works fine.
    StarCraft Remastered - works fine.
Black Desert Online - works fine.
    osu! - works fine.
Streaming on Twitch - works fine.

    Windows 10 Pro 1703 (installing 1709 atm)
    GT73VR TITAN (1070)

    Installation method:
    DDU
    Install 388.13

Still waiting...how did they manage to break shadowplay again? It used to work just fine when other applications using hardware acceleration were open.

I have also noticed some annoying bug in fullscreen where (and i guess/bet) due to a driver issue, in PUBG and also Fortnite if vsync is enabled this happens

I guess it's a driver issue because i have noticed the same weird lines in GRID Autosport which is an old game and runs on a different engine than PUBG and Fortnite do. It's been there since a long time now and it does happen only in fullscreen mode unless you turn off vsync. I believe also Squad has this issue.

Use MSI Afterburner 4.4 and select video capture. From the dropdown menu choose external encoder NVENC with quality preset and target bit rate of 10Mbps. See this screenshot and get rid off GFE because MSI AB can use CUDA based encode/decoder to record your game like GFE.
@Papusan @Mr. Fox If you guys are interested in recording games with zero bloatware from nvidia. You can also use Intel QuickSync to record games with great quality than stock nvenc at 5Mbps. I felt 10Mbps gave me similar quality like Quicksync.
