I have recently installed Dox's 180.44 but i get downclocking problems in my games for some reason after like 7 minutes of gaming.
Using the powermizer switch and turning it off on batter and AC makes it go away but i still get the black screen after a few minutes but the clocks stay the same.
I dont like to bet interrupted in the middle of gaming but a occasional one time freeze is enough to **** me off.
Anyone here using Doxs 180.44 and not getting any downclocking issues.
-
yeah I'm running his 178.24 because I've heard alot of recommendations for it and it doesn't "downclock" (lose fps performance) when gaming on battery. So I was looking forward to his next whql release, but when I read the forums on his 180.44 and alot of people having compatibility probs I hesitated. Don't know if he's slacking now or doing rush jobs, but I'm gonna hold of on it till it get's better feedback or nvidia releases another whql and he customizes it. I just hope it boosts performance on COD5 WAW.

ok i will try it i repped you for answering after i was left to the dust lol.
Thanks i will try the driver out now.
Thank you it fixed all my problems. I will test it in OCing and tell ya what i get. -
180.44 is just overall a terrible driver.
-
Both 180.43 and 180.44 kill my gaming. Driver crashes every time I try after about 5mins of play. Gives me a black screen but I can hear the game still playing. Probably part of the "Driver stopped responding and had to be restarted" issue we saw awhile ago with other drivers. I think I will leave the 180 series well alone for the time being and stick to what works (in my case 178 series).

hmm... not having probs with dox 180.44 here...

ok 180.44 had the black screen and the driver failure problem after like 5 minutes but the frame rate boost is like 3-5 frams which is really impressive.
If the driver did not have the driver failures and downclocking problems it would be the perfect driver for me. Someone neeeds to release a hotfix because the optimization of the driver is great it gives a great boost to frames just that i hate driver failures.
ANYONE WHO DOES NOT HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THIS DRIVER PLEASE TELL ME HOW YOU INSTALLED IT>>>>>>i lost some frames going from 180.44 to 178.24 but i would gladly go back to 180.44 if someone gets this fixed. -
180.44 sucks for me
Fallout 3 now droping to 40s so is dead space

Hello jacob808,
I'm not doing rush jobs :O
180.44 is NOT a WHQL driver but a WHQL candidate
Driver issues you have is actually the fault of nvidia's code.
Just look at the chagelog for my drivers
Do you see anything that I did to the .dll? (OK I did fix the digital vibrance bug in XP which I had to mod the .dll)
I just optimise it and remove the excess fat and tweak it here and there.
178.24 is a very good driver thats why its the newest WHQL.
180.xx is good but only if it works. Works for me great btw.
Maybe in the future I'll only mod WHQL drivers, so people who use them wont have problems
I only modded 180.44 for driver enthuisasts who like to be up to date
And to test out the installer and desktop support -
This is the method i used to install the drivers:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=265740
(well i didn't have to us the "have disk method" once i uninstalled the old drivers with that method i just used dox's and it went through the set up)
i already had all the extras installed so when Dox's install prompted me with buttons to install stuff i didn't. I jsut installed the drivers only.
Edit:I'v only been playing Warhammer Online since i switched drivers... I'll check crysis tonight when i get home... don't have warhead (I'm not all into FPS's but couldn't resist the hype when i got my 7811) -
I and I know many others appreciate your efforts!!! + rep! -
k thanks. Try out crysis and tell me what you get.
I'd like to see how much of a fps boost you get from these drivers.
please dont use fraps or r_dislpayinfo = 1
play the game and tell me if it fells smoother and more playable now. -
I didn't mean to sound insulting like that. Forgive me. I haven't even tried the 180.44 drivers yet. I am grateful for your 178.24 drivers since it has redeemed my confidence in using drivers not directly supplied by Toshiba.
I just got the X305 with a single 9700m gts and the first time I tried installing a laptopvid2go driver on this notebook I lost the ability to game on battery because it would downclock and the problem would persist even going back to original drivers, so solution was to system restore.
I built up courage to give yours a try and it gave me a significant boost in performance along with the huge benefit of not losing performance while gaming on just battery.
So now I'm eager to get another boost in performance since I just bought Call of Duty World at War. And I'm wanting to try the 180.44 drivers, although I'm wondering what the posts from users who tried say they have a virus or trojan warning when trying to install. Is it the new installer that you're using?
Anyway I'm looking forward to every customize release you put out and I think alot of people do now. So keep em coming. Again thanks for your efforts.
+1 rep -
Driver modding is a long process.
Even though I think I get it right at release I don't (Vista x64 had to be fixed after release). Thats why I replied to your post saying I did a rush job, not to "fight back" but to just make it clear that I dont modify drivers in such as way that compromises on system stability and usage. I'm not offended BTW
Like I say the faults some people face is due to nvidia's code.
I could attempt to modify them to fix issues, but at the end of the day I could add further complications. The digital vibrance facing XP drivers - I fixed (180.44.1) but I also left the old unfixed version (180.44) for download just incase the fix breaks something in the drivers.
As for the "virus", "trojans", its just a false postive.
If it were real surely ther would be more uproar than one person posting on my thread
The new installer is designed in such a way that it will run the setup.exe automatically for you when you click install, maybe thats why the virus checker thinks its a virus etc.
Also if you want piece of mind only downlod my drivers from laptopvideo2go -

178.24 do not include these texture tweaks.
180.43 and 180.44 has this
Makes things look at little bit nicer doesnt it?
Performace in 3D marks will be slower (maybe) but real world games should have minimal performance hit.
I meant 178.24 ws generally a "very good" driver judging from people's feebacks. -
I find that Dox's 180.44 drivers work pretty well.

Darth Bane Dark Lord of the Sith
dox's 180.44 gave me a nice boost in my games and image quality looks great. Keep up the great work!
-
I've noticed that some are talking about Dox's work while some are talking vanilla drivers, so to clarify, if you didn't specifically download Dox's Custom Forceware 180.44, then you aren't using his tweaked drivers. There is a BIG difference.
-
hey DOX i just reinstalled 180.44. and its working fine now.
THANKS for the awesome work.
Now release 180.47
lol jking take a vacation man. -
Dox I've tried the 180.44 and it was going good until I unplugged my notebook and it downclocked I also tested 3dm6 and lost 300 points.
First of all, I did this by using fraps and observing my framerate at a beginning of a stage for reference to compare my results.
Before I updated to your 180.44 I was getting a good solid 30 fps with your custom 178.24 on a certain stage in Call of Duty W@W with my notebook plugged in. I then unplugged and the framerate never dropped it stayed at 30 fps. So I created a restore point and updated to your 180.44. It installed properly and first thing I did was load the same stage of COD W@W and observed the framerate it was the same 30 fps with my notebook plugged in. I then unplugged and it dropped to 12 fps. So I wasn't planning on keeping it and wanted to try the 176.75 drivers and even those were downclocking running on just battery. I did a driver sweeper and tried to go back and install your 178.24 drivers and now those downclock as well.
Fortunatley I made a restore point before testing and went back before I ever had a downclocking problem, so now I can game again without downclocking.
I would warn anyone now that buys a new gaming notebook before they update there video drivers to see if it downclocks when they unplug, because chances are that the notebook won't downclock at all and you can game as if you were plugged in, but if you do update and lose your ability to game on battery because of the driver downclocking, you'll naturally assume it was like that to begin with and without a restore point you'll have ruined it beyond repair, because rolling back or trying to reinstall the previous driver won't give you back that ability to game on battery. -
Dox, you should bring back the SLI tweaks mate
-
(sorry for the tangent. it was AWESOME!!) -
Lol.yeah morgemil. Can you test it out now and see how it runs on all high native res. i get like 23 fps all high 14-9.
I got it to work but i put my laptop away after i installed it. I will check back and stress test it on Crysis Warhead with powermizer off and see how that goes.
