Just checking. I may be getting my specs mixed up, but I believe there was a concern with something in this series. Is this considered relatively OK?

As far as I know it's still a bit of a gamble. I would only do it if they give free extra warranty, like Dell does.

Although I have not seen any incidences of Nvidia 8400M failure at Sony's SZ series. This may be explained by the fact that Sony SZ has very good cooling.

To be honest, I am not sure yet. Was thinking about the Dell XPS.

The m1330 series seems to have the most problems with the "faulty" nvidia chips recently, mostly because it has rather poor cooling. If you were planning on getting the m1530 though, you'd probably have less chance of having to deal with that problem.

I personally would not buy an 8400 or 8600, period. 8700 I might stay away from as well. Anything else I feel pretty safe with.

^ I second Hep's recommendation. As hard as it is, stay away from 8400 and 8600 cards as they seem to be the most affected by the problem.

Apparently, Dell has implemented a hardware fix for the M1330, and is using the new eutectic solders instead of the heat sensitive high lead ones.
