I've heard that the nV 9600M GT is pretty tough on battery life, is the 9200M GS much better?
    Thanks

I think so. The 12.1" Samsung Q210 with 9200M GS can run for 5 hours on its battery.

Fewer transistors = less power leakage.

The 9200M GS is a much less powerful graphics card, so it will consume less battery life than the 9600M GT. The important question is what sort of performance do you need from a graphics processor? The 9200M GS is not substantially better than the new Intel 4500MHD integrated graphics. The Intel 4500 is a big step up from the previous Intel X3100 that you will still find in many Intel-based systems.

To give you some perspective on performance, here are the 3DMark06 scores for each one-

    Intel X3100 (old)- 524
    Intel 4500MHD (new)- 1174
    nVIDIA 9200M GS- 1400
    nVIDIA 9600M GT- 4655

As those numbers show, the 9600M GT is in an entirely different performance category. The 9200M GS is hardly worth the extra $100 or so over the Intel 4500MHD IGP. You can also see that the new Intel IGP more than doubles the score of the previous one.

If battery life is paramount, the Intel 4500 is your best bet. If you need some real graphics muscle, the 9600M GT is the one.

Actually 9200m gs is listed with a score of 1600+ and I got 1700+ on it.
Look it up, the 1400 score is way too low. Don't know who got it and how.

The 9200m GS is an integrated GPU isn't it? Which would mean it uses much less power than the 9600m GT (I expect it won't use more than half the Watts the 9600m GT consumes).

My Q210 with a 9200M GS stock clocks scores 2000 in 3Dmark, but its got 3GB RAM and a P8400 to back it up.
If you want battery life with light gaming then its a decent option,
I ran some games and took some screenshots here.
