    9800m GT2 <----- :confused:
    9800m GT
    Is that a revamped version of the 9800m GT or just a plain fancier name for the same 9800m GT model or or ....?

    It's probably a typo of some sort. Do you have another more "official" link rather than an ebay add because I don't recall ever seeing the nomenclature "9800M GT2" anywhere, but I may be wrong :confused:

    It’s neither mention in gpureview.com, only the model 9800 GX2 for desktops. I’ve come across another ad under Ebay stating the existence for a “9800M GT2.”

    Well I personally have never heard nor seen such a name so it's new to me.

    It's interesting to note that both "sources" you have for the existence of this GPU are Alienware machines. Perhaps it's some kind of weird Alienware thing?

    It's actually quite simple. The 9800M GT2 is just the second ebay seller's name for the matched set of 9800M GTs for the M1730. The M1730 was never released for sale with a single 9800M GT. The options were 8700M GT, 8700M GT SLI, 8800M GTX SLI, 9800M GT SLI and 9800M GTX SLI. Hence 9800M GT2. Probably to draw extra hits as well. The M1730 is not a AW machine.

    As for the first ebay seller, I think that might be a typo or a deliberate effort to confuse less knowledgeable buyers.

    I understand slightly what you’re referring to, although the first EBay link provides a description of the AW invoice description (if you scroll further down on the page) “
    1 | NVIDIA 9800M-GT2 512MB FOX

    ” , besides the EBay poster’s own paragraph describing it as a 9800M-GT2.
    The 2nd EBay poster describes the 9800M GT2 as a replacement of the first introduced 9800M GTX do to its instabilities & overheating issues. However, I still have not yet come to another source describing the 9800M GT2 name.

    It's just a marketing gimmick by eBay people. Surely the Dellienware invoice lists it as "9800m GT2" to alleviate confusion, as the "GT2" would designate non-SLi. It's still a normal 9800m GT, but it's designed to only fit an m15x.
