Hey guys...look's like nVidia is firing the next shot in the GPU war!

It reports a 3dMark03 score of about 9754, so I'm guessing that it will score about 4000-4100 in 3dMark05 and 2400-2500 for 3dMark06. That will top the current X1600 in terms of performance, but not by too much (~8-12% or less)
I'll be keeping an eye out for ATI to answer to this one.
Please don't start any flame wars...I only wanted to mention a new product.

The ATI x1650 is supposedly the successor to the x1600. You may want to look into that.
-
Weren't there some reports or rumors of an X1700 from ATI? Presumably that would be the competitor.
-
No doubt something new is on its way though... -
i actually read *somewhere* that the X1700 (or X1650...still not sure to the name i guess) saying that the refresh is either a whole new card and more powerful or a die-shrink of the X1600.

It's nice to see they put a real 7600 in laptops now, though disappointed cause I am stuck with a 7600Go, bleh.

Here's a link that Chaz found; a review of the ASUS A8Js in laptopmag.

Here is Nvidia's press release:

The Go7700 looks like a beast - 12 pixel pipes. -
I was kinda hoping to see this card go into a 15.4 inch model. Looks like I will still have to play the waiting game.
-
If you look at the nvidia page, it actually appears to be just a refresh of the Go 7600, though it's odd that they don't advertise the 12 pixel pipelines more. But if you look at the page linked, it shows it slightly below the 7600GT.

Here's a thread with a link to a direct Go 7700 and MR X1700 comparison.

The Go 7700 is obviously faster. However, as I've commented there, the Go 7700 isn't much faster than the Go 7600 despite 50% more pipelines so it's probably downclocked to conserve power and bandwidth starved. If that is the case, then nVidia is just using up transistor space for the heck of it since they are on a 80nm process. An overclocked Go 7600 like the Go 7600GT could easily achieve the same or better results. -
The part that kills me is the 7600GO has the extra pipes there, it is the same core as the desktops as far as I can tell but one quad is diabled in hardware. The 7700Go is probably just a dye shrink and they turned on the extra quad.

Well, guess I'll just have to OC my 7600 then whenever I finally get the darn machine. Wonder if there'll be a way for me to replace the graphics chip in it eventually?
-
just return it (or cancel the order) citing that it took them so long to get the machine that it has (literally) been outdated. then go buy an ASUS A8Jm(or s)...i'm not sure about the model number anymore.
-
Finally Nvidia has something better to compete with the X1600. The 7600go.. never was as good.
-
Oh Tokuman, let the flames being, not for nothing but the whole x1600 vs 7600GO has been beat to death, if you check there is a post on here somewhere I think it is stickyed now that shows the performance difference between the two are very small. But the 7700GO is what the 7600GO should have been.
