Considering that DX10 just hit the market, it will be a month or two before that card is really available in mass.

I've been keeping my eye open on Geforce 8600 notebooks as well. The only one that I know off that is available already is Zepto.

Not available yet but already on the website:
    Acer Aspire 5920
    Packard Bell EasyNote MB85-P-009

The Compal IFL90 will have the 8600gs and the option to upgrade to the 8600gt.

How would you compare a 8600gs to the go7900gs? which one's more powerful?

Another notebook that will have the 8600M GS is the HP Pavilion dv9500t. HP will put DX10 cards into their notebooks in June (they currently only carry the GMA X3100).

Well, in terms of benchmarks, an 8600M GT rougly equals a Go 7900GS (they both benchmark approximately 3,500 in 3DMark06). However, the 8600M GS clocks only 2,000. That benchmarks score is basically the score from the older Geforce Go 7600.

Even in a comparison between the 8600M GT and Go 7900GS, the 7900GS will still be more powerful. The 8600M series in general is hampered by its 128-bit memory bus, which limits the amount of data that the card can handle. In 3DMark benchmarks, the 8600M GT resembles a 7900GS' scores. But, in an actual game, the 7900GS handles better. However, considering the 8600M is a mid-range card meant to replace the older Go 7600 series, both the 8600M GS and GT do their jobs.

Now i've heard somewhere, forget where, that the 8600m GS is definately NOT a mid range card. i think they said it was the class above it. performance class i think. and with the new age of dx10 coming, eventually the 8600M will do better than the 7900m.

I am receiving my hp dv9500t with the 8600GS tomorrow morning. I hear that the card is underperforming, but that Vista allows a flashdrive to get bootstrapped. Has anyone heard of this? and Does this make up for the memory problem?

Vista can use a flash drive to make some speed gains on systems with little ram. 1GB or less shows performance gains but 2GB the differance is very little. It is called readyboost. It does not help the graphics card performance.

Tubocache (using system ram as video ram) helps a little and adding more system ram will help too. But Vista Readyboost does not help.
