looking to buy a new laptop, and due to the insurance vouchers i recieved from my old laptop i can only buy from PcWorld (pcworld.co.uk)

which presents me with a problem - i cant get the laptop i want, and anything near what i want costs way too much!

i play World of Warcraft, a lot, and my old laptop gave a fps max of 9 (exciting stuff!) wich is hardly decent but none-the-less it was still playable when i couldnt use the desktop.

the only laptop i could within my budget from pcworld has an 'nVidia GeForce 9200M GS' (the rest have those horrible integrated things which really wont do)

can anyone tell me how this would play? or even a rough idea if it would at least give me better fps?

I had an 8400m GS with 64mb in my previous laptop and it handled WoW just fine at 1280x800. So I imagine a 9200M GS wouldn't have any problems.

Not the best answer to you question but here is farcry 2 on that card

however i dont know how true that is. I would say you will be ok with that just make sure you turn the shadows down as they are the killer.

Except the 3.0 patch added a lot of graphic improvements. My 8600mGT used to get 60 FPS all the time at 1920x1200 max settings, now Im seeing 40s with spikes and dips. My old HP has a 3200 IGP and it ran OK at lowest settings, but sometimes dipped into the single digit FPS and it is on par with a 9200 or slightly better.

Moral of the story 1280x800 lowest settings its playable and you can raid, but it wont be too smooth.

I think the 3450. The 9200 is integrated if I'm not mistaken.

Mistaken. But it is a weak card in terms of graphics.

@OP, I'm 95% sure the 9200M GS can handle WoW.

9200m is pretty stronger than 8400m gs, just try some benchmarks ;)
Ps. i play with Devil may Cry 4, 1280x800 and high details (no aa) with decent fps ;)

    It's weaker.
    The 9300m is higher clocked

the card is almost the same as the 8400m gs I have in my laptop, and you can acturally max WoW on 1280x800 without AA at 40fps constant. if WoW is your only gaming concern, then the 9200m gs is more than enough. dont know about Wotlk, but cant imaging it be much more demanding that WoW BC

There are a lot of people that don't understand what WotLK has done to WoW in terms of using system resources. They played classic and maybe some BC before bashing it into oblivion and moving on. What they didn't experience was the patch leading up to WotLK that brought many systems to their knees. And these are environments that players have been playing in since 2004.

I would definitely get more feedback before settling on the 9200M GS because it looks like a really weak card. But if that is your only choice and waiting and saving money is not an option then I guess you'll have to make do.

With a soft overclock I get about 2.6-2.7k on 3dmark06 with my little P210: this is the level of a standard clocked 8600m gs.
9200m gs is not so weak. Much better than 8400 gs.

Check the link in my sig for the 9200M GS on games, its a weak card but not as weak as some make it out to be.
