How many bits does this card have?
    nVidia GeForce GTX 570M 1.5GB GDDR5, DX11

Can I get a link to a source?

Is this enough to play wow on ultra?
Why do a lot of people bash on this card?

The 570m is the 3rd or 4th most powerful single GPU that can fit in a laptop at this time.

Stock, it is an underclocked desktop 460 768MB with twice the GDDR5.

Flash the BIOS, update drivers to the latest and OC and you have a very powerful GPU capable of playing almost anything at 1080p on Ultra.

That being said, you don't have a 4.5GHz OCd i5/i7 behind it like you do in a desktop.

The 570m got some bad press when it was released, as like always Nvidia needs to tune its drivers and people hadn't figured lout how to tweak it yet.

You can find a lot more info on performance of this GPU in the MSI forums.

So Overclocking it and updating all that jazz should potentially surpass the ati 6990 and almost reaching 580m performance?

You will easily max out WOW at 1080. I have the same exact card in my MSI and play Battlefield 3 on Ultra at 1080. My 570m is overclocked and still doesn't hit 70 Celsius after 2-3 hours of playing BF3. A overclocked 570m will perform about the same as a stock 580m or 6990m. When I say good overclock, I don't mean just boosting the core/mem. In order to get everything out of it, you must boost the voltage as well.

Notebookcheck is a little off as the scores were taken when drivers sucked and before the BIOS fix.

    OC'd 570m
    825gpu/1650shader/1750mem
    3dmark11
    p3853

    OC'd 580m
    740/1480/1600
    3DMark 11
    P3974

    OD'd 6970m
    (between 3800-3900 3dmark11)

    OC'd 6990m
    (between 3900-4k 3dmark11)

*note please, the scores from the nvidia chips are from the MSI forum. The scores from the AMD chips are estimates taken from various Alienware and Clevo forum posts.

The 570m and 6970m are similar, the 580m and 6990m are similar.

The 580m and 6990m are a tier above the 570m and 6970m both at stock and OC'd.

Is there a guide for this? I'm new to this kind of stuff so I apologize for the silly questions.

I got it the MSI 1761 and from what I've been told I could just always upgrade it.

    MSI-GX660

    I7-920XM @ 3.5GHZ
    GTX570M @ 840MHZ / 914MHZ

    3DV P15400+
    3D11 P4200+

I'm pretty sure the OCed 570M will outperform an OCed 6970M

I can achieve 4020 3DMark 11 and others in the MSI forum are able to achieve between 4100 and 4200 with theirs. I believe the Nvidia cards have more overclocking head room due to them running cooler.

Nice OC... but that makes sense given your higher clocks.

Note I tried to pick what I thought were reasonably-achievable scores and not the extremes.

The point remains... the 570m is a fine GPU.
Given the fact you can score one in an MSI white-box with a 2670 i7 and a 500GB HDD for $1200, its one of the best deals in gaming laptops in a long time.

**note, Mitsu it looks like you underquoted yourself... that OC is 870!

Definitely agree on the Whitebook 1761. I picked one up in January w/ the fallowing configuration.

    17" 1080p Glossy Display
    i7 2670qm
    GTX 570m
    8gb DDR3 1600
    750gb HDD 7200rpm
    6X Blu Ray Reader
    Bigfoot Wireless N1103
    Steelseries Backlit Keyboard
    Windows Home Premium 64

Pair all that with free IC Diamond Paste and the Dynaudio speakers. The final price of $1405 makes this set up one of the most, if not the most attractive notebooks on the market.

I added 8 more gigs of RAM and a 128gb Samsung 830SSD after I received it which brought the total cost to $1640.

I could always upgrade to the 680 as well! It's a simple soldering job to replace it

im pretty sure that notebook is mxm 3.0b so you would not need to "solder" it, not to mention that probably wouldnt work as the 570m and 680m are not going to be made on the same board, and dont have the same bus width or anything.

Any of the Nvidia 6 series mobile chips will be compatible with anything currently running the 5 series. I know with the MSI, if you wanted to upgrade from the 570 to the 675/680, you would need to install a jumper. Contact your re-seller as they will usually do it for free as long as you buy the card from them.

@everybody: While the overclocking information is interesting, isn't it enough that the 570M will max out WOW for him stock?

A difference of a few hundred in vantage and 30-ish points in 3dmark11 on an extreme OC is not really an indication of one card outperforming another.

Reality speaking, it means the two are similar in performance (within 1-2%).
This isn't surprising as the 570m was shipped to compete with the 6970m.

Not that there is anything at all wrong with the 6970m, but...
I am not aware of a 6970m in a performance laptop for around $1200.

Regardless of benchmarks and quantitative values (which in my opinion we all..including myself at times..get WAY too hung up on)...the 570 will perform extremely well with almost all games out there right now on High or even Ultra settings at 1080p...will the 580 or 6990 allow for higher benchmarks and squeezing a bit more oomph out of most games? Of course...but all I can say..is that in real world performance...i would find it tough to believe that you wont be happy with the performance of your 570...

I was mostly trying to show off my ability to recognize and despise a Chinese Internet Security suite and say so in Chinese, but I felt like I had to contribute to the discussion somehow in addition ;)

Seriously, though, he's not exactly trying to run Metro 2033 on ultra, a stock 570m will be way more than enough for WOW without him running the risk of damaging the card with an inexperienced overclock (which may or may not have happened to my current laptop's first 5650m  )
