Hi guys, can you tell me a few details about the nVidia Geforce 8600M GT, like fps, what games it can play, and it's 3dmark score.

    Cheers

    hey Fat,

When I was running XP and trying to eek every bit of performance out of my 8600 DDR2 I was able to get 3dMarks of 4100+ (590/490 OC)...and I only had 2GB RAM then, and 5400RPM drive (not sure if my recent upgrades would affect the scores). I played the Crysis MP Beta on half settings high, shadows & shaders on low, and got FPS in the upper 40s - 50s. I played the SP Demo on most settings high, again shaders and shadows are big slowdowns, as well as AA settings. But Definitely playable.

Half-Life 2 will play with an FPS of about double your screen's refresh rate, so that's not a problem (unless you up your AA settings).

    CoD4 plays just fine.

In the end you can play any game you wish, just depends on how nitpicky you are about playing at high-res/fps/image quality. You won't be able to max out the latest games, but you can definitely have an enjoyable experience playing any game right now.

P.S. If you get a DDR3 you will be even better off, I think the stock clocks are about as high as the DDR2 clocks can OC. I believe I've seen the DDR3 card overclock & get 3dmark06 settings in the high 5000's if not into the 6000s.

High 5000s with low resolution and the risk of overheating.. 6000s? I doubt it.

Still a great card that will run whatever you throw at it as long as you don't throw too hard.
