I guess this is the new normal. Put out a board certified driver that nearly fries PCs 378.49, then "fix it" with a HOTFIX DRIVER. Maybe the people that create the hotfix, should make the certified driver-just saying

Question is, does this driver actually address the temperature issue or is it more of the same?

Are people having temp issues? I actually never had any issues with this one or previous drivers.. but on the other hand I don't play/use the same games/programs as other people.

since it doesn't mention anything about this issue in the fixes list. I'd avoid this one like the plague

Good advice. There's no reason to even take chances with their lame new drivers these days - Unless of course there is a MUST have game profile.

I'll probably still at least install these to see if they address the dual-display sleep/wake problem I've been having (detailed here) on the off-chance that it's a driver problem as opposed to one relating to the BIOS/EC. In the extremely likely event that it doesn't work, I'll switch right back to 376.60.

Yeah but someone tested both drivers, and made a video with the comparison.

The reason the MSI 376.39 was so much cooler, was because in a game or benchmark the GPU load was around 60 something percent, while with 378.49 the GPU was locked at 99%. The 378.49 driver also significantly increased GPU performance output, for obvious reasons.

That doesn't need a hotfix, because there is nothing to fix. If anything the 376.39 being provided by MSI has the issue.

Not info about this driver, but we still talk about Nvidia and their drivers - tools

"In my prediction it will not be long before the parties like perhaps EU Commission will start an investigation on Nvidia, they are collecting system and user data of millions of end-users through GeForce Experience. First you spend hundreds of euros/dollars on a graphics cards and then if you want to fully use the features and software they are forcing you to login to their system allowing them to harvest and track data"

Can I ask an honest question because I am seriously confused atm.

What is the best latest driver for GTX980m bearing in mind that I play Total War - WH and still on driver 372.54 & scared to death of touching anything after that.

EDIT: trying 376.60 atm. performance is much better for total war warhammer but that game heats up my card like hell and uses around 5 gigs of vRam regardless of the driver.

    Is this normal?

There's a Reddit thread that says to use the 378.57 hotfix release if you run Minecraft:

Don't install Nvidia GPU Driver Version 378.49! It stops Minecraft from loading properly.

Running 378.349 on 970OC without problem. And there is no official release of 378.57 on the download driver page so until that happens - I will not download it.

Correct, these are "Hotfix" drivers which are aimed to fix specific issues, so if you're not having any of the ones listed on the change log then you don't really need to update.

I like hotfix drivers because they are usually a little bit more stable than drivers that were so buggy they needed a hotfix in the first place, plus I like I can use the same exe on desktops and laptops for hotfix drivers.

I tried these drivers this morning-no good for me. I'm using win10 and I.E. started to go haywire. All YouTube videos had an annoying flicker that I could not fix. My favorites all appeared in some sort of strange language until I passed over them with my mouse. I went back to 376.60 driver

Use the System Monitoring tab in DGC.

The video comparison Shehary made,, shows the difference:

Also said the 378.49 gave 15fps more performance.

I mentioned this on another thread, but these drivers actually gave me my performance back. I didn't notice when, but previous drivers had me somehow performance limited. No matter my clocks, overclocks or anything, my GPU would always give me 22.8k firestrike score.

With these, I am back to near 25k when overclocked and overall performance is higher/more stable.

I am getting a Fire Strike score of 17900, how on earth did you get 22.8K? did you overclock your GPU?

my run of Fire Strike was on the MSI 376.39 driver though, but still, that's a huge difference, and my GPU was overclocked to 150/300
