As the Windows OS patch requires a firmware patch to offer all the protections, I wonder if the Nvidia security changes require the Windows / Linux OS patch to be installed? And maybe even require the motherboard firmware update for all the changes to be active, just like the OS patch?

Given new Nvidia drivers are constantly needed for new game support, maybe if the Windows OS / firmware security updates aren't done the Nvidia security changes aren't activated?

@Phoenix is it standard 3DMark FS TS SD tests? for benching testing ? Just want to make sure we have the same method for testing like.

Use games instead. Benchmarks scores increases but during gameplay you can monitor fps,gpu core clocks, gpu usage, stuttering etc.
I use games to test if new driver made the performance better or worse.

Yes standard and also I use standard settings in nVIDIA Control Panel, I noticed no difference or worse results when I put the Texture Filtering Quality to High Performance vs the default Quality Setting.

The most important thing is to change the Power management mode in NVCPL from Optimal to Adaptive or High Performance and reboot otherwise the new clocks won't take effect.

I prefer Adaptive as it keeps the GPU clocks at lower clocks when there is nothing GPU intensive and ramps the clocks up to full speed when needed. that way you'll get less heat from the GPU as its not running at full speed while you're just in Word or surfing

OK games wise i have D2 BF1 BF3 BF4 BFBC2 Project Cars 2 Assetto Corsa installed. Reason i asked about Phoenix's testing method was if it was just the standard CB15, FS, TS, SD tests i could run that on a bloat free Benchmarking Native Booting OS with HWiFO and RTSS mix. I have all the settings on that Native Booting VM OS for benchamarking applyed I.E what phoenix has already stated minus your suggestions Vasudev. It also meant my Benchmarking data from previous runs would be vaild for comparison, as the only variable would be just the driver.

As it stands i have TS, FS, SD, CB15 pre patch OS for the new security flaw and after on stock clocks with the same custom fan curve set in Dragon Centre so comparisons can then be made for before and after to see if the loss if any is gained back with driver update from Nvidia.

IME Low is hardly distinguishable from Off in terms of smoothness and lag. Medium is when I start to notice the increase in smoothness and lag. High and Ultra the lag is ridiculous, I would much sooner use VSync at that point.

    Benchmark Results:

Due to recent events with CPU Flaws and security issues i have done 3 tests on a Benchmark Native Boot VM.

Here in the results of these tests shown here you will see two tests on the same driver build with a Difference in Windows Builds (AKA 16299.125 and 16299.192).

All tests was done with Stock GPU and CPU clocks, with also a Custom Fan Curve (Via Dragon Centre) and Nvidia Settings set to their defaults with only Performance set to Maximum this was done on all Benchmarking runs.

Please click Spoiler for the results :

Please remember that there is a margin of error in any Benchmark test(s) done due to the nature of how each System/Component is made or designed.

If the OP wish they can add this to the OP as a link. I hope this meets the @Phoenix standard.

@thegh0sts what do you mean, i have merely benchmarked the drivers, with results pre OS update with the older drivers and after OS update with both older driver and the latest driver. Phoenix normally does the barbecue party but i decided to do it this time.

I don't have GSync at all. Simpy enabled Variable/Adaptive screen refresh. So if FPS is 60 there will be less stutter seen while gaming.
@thegh0sts I'd wait for @j95 nvidia driver mods, I think he observed some problems while testing?

Ohhh you're talking about Adaptive VSync. Why didn't you say so? :p

But wait, doesn't your laptop have Optimus? Does Adaptive VSync actually work for you?

It works only using nvidia inspector. NVCP doesn't expose that option.
Its free GSYNC. You'll see lags when FPS is under 10, above 10 it doesn't stutter at all, even with VSYNC ON.
I observed stutters on Witcher 2 at high or ultra settings. Previously on GTA 5 I had strange FPS drops now its not happening since 388.xx and above.

On a older update Nvidia GFE had disabled the tray icon for "perfomance" reasons, since i sometimes use it and they have added it back but it doesn't work for me, does anyone know how to get it back?

LOL Adaptive VSync is not free G-Sync. It's regular VSync that automatically disables (and tears) if FPS drops below 60.

adaptive only becomes available when the nvidia GPU is the dedicated GPU and not in optimus mode.

It doesn't appear in NVCP on Optimus, but can still be enabled from within Nvidia Profile Inspector. Same goes for Fast Sync on Optimus.

    I'd like to double check that but I don't have a laptop with optimus...thankfully. It's a joke.
