Seems interesting, lets hope it really makes a difference!

NVIDIA dont have a better name? Optimus is sound too much Transformers rip-off.
Intel already integrated its GPU with CPU (Arrandale), we can get switchable graphic cards.
I think NVIDA should focus on how to make fast, reliable, cheap GPUs to beat ATI. -
Sounds like the perfect replacement for Powermizer.
Thanks for the heads-up -
Fix the Powermizer stuttering first please.
-
I don't even know what powermizer is but I'm game for this new stuff!
-
so they rebadged powermizer. oh wow who would have thought.
i thought they hit rock bottom with rebadged 350m/360m, now they started digging. -
lol i don't care about it as long as all the powermixer bugs in windows 7 are fixed but seriously did they have to use such a name... sounds so like transformers...
-
Maybe the creators of The Transformers will sue them!
I also expect this to be a rebadge of powermizer but with extra bugs and more bloat as new features. -
Update! See first post!

I'm not sure I'm sold on this. Sounds like it will be a bear to upgrade drivers (probably won't be able to use modified desktop drivers). Also reading the anandtech article they compared the new Asus laptop with the same hardware (not sure about battery capacity although it appears the same) to the ul80 with manually switching gpu's and the battery life took a hit with no gain in performance.
For the lay person this is probably a decent idea, for me, I would rather have the control and be able to squeeze as much performance out when I wanted and be able to conserve as much battery life as needed. -
I'm personally afraid that the algorithms used to determine when the switching occurs might be less effective than a simple Power<->Stamina switch. I wonder what would happen if you run a game that's not very GPU demanding, and would run smooth with iGPU. Will the system decide to use dedicated GPU? Very interesting in my opinion. Though I would prefer manual switching, any technology that will make use of the iGPU while having a dedicated one in the system will be appreciated
