Nvidia and ATI architecture are very different and things such as number of shaders and clock rates cannot be easily compared directly.

ATI cards can easily be overclocked using AMD GPU Clock Tools v0.26 (for the 5000's series). It's what I use for my 5650 which has the same core as the 5730. By the way, these cards produce virtually no extra heat when overclocked than at base clock. Performance is given a nice boost as well :)

Is this overclock tool a software level OC or HW? I'm not too big of a fan of having extra programs running in the background.

You can test with the AMD clock tool (software), then if you're brave enough, edit your VBIOS and permanently flash the clocks. That's the only hardware way to do it.

AMD GPU tool doesn't run in the backgound though, you can make command line shortcuts that change your clocks on the fly. That's how I do it anyways.

So basically you OC it with software and it stays permanently (with no program running)?

Until you reboot, or change settings, ya. I use 200/250 for desktop, 700/1000 for older games, and 800/1100 for high end games. Really easy.

The command line is as simple as this: "-eng=200 -mem=250"
