This week Big Lots has a Compaq laptop w/ a Turion X2 processor, 3gb ram, and nVidia 8200m graphics for $399. I have a friend who wants light older gaming capabilities (I dont think anything more intensive graphically then LEGO Star Wars is gonna happen), and he's looking for cheap. I'm just curious how the 8200m is compared to other integrated solutions? Is it better then the ATI x1270? I know it probably doesn't match the ATI HD 3200 but is it one of the better integrated solutions? Like better then Intel HD 4500 too?

It is about the same as the HD3200, I think.

The 8200M is Nvidia's integrated GPU and it's not very powerful. It performs less well than ATI's HD3200, which is currently the most powerful IGP on the market.

On the other hand, I think it scales more or less on par with the Intel HD4500. If you're really playing older games, then I think it should perform ok.

Where do you see that in your link? I only see a few charts in that section of the article and none of them feature the HD4500 benchmarks?

I'm pretty sure most GPUs could outperform any graphics solution by Intel considering they have the worst GPUs out there lol :p, but I haven't heard much about the 8200M so I can't really comment >.<

the nvidia 9400 is integrated? why would they make a x400 card integrated? They are usually the low end of dedicated.

Last I checked the ATI HD3200 was comparable to a 8400M GS, but I don't remember any mention of the 9300 or 9400 series.

But we're veering a bit off-topic here lol :p The OP asked if the 8200M was enough for his friend's needs and if it's comparable to other integrated solutions such as the ATI HD3200 or the HD4500.

Thanks for clearing that up ^^ I had a hunch it probably did since it was newer and better than the 8400M GS, but I wasn't sure.

Anyways, better get back to topic lol >.> I don't even know how we got into this "HD3200 vs everything else" topic lol :p
