Hello everyone, I'm fixing pcs and almost every kind of electronics since almost 3 years so you dont have to give me any advice of heat power consumption and all that crap, i know it already just focus to help please :D
So, I just got myself a gaming laptop with a 4gb gtx 880m, and its throttling all the time when i need it, brilliant isn't it? Then I tried out many drivers even custom ones and other stuff but didn't worked, now I'm playing around with kbt trying to find out which power table do i have to edit in order to stop this, I got 8 columns but no explanation which one is what. All i want is my gpu to run at least 900mhz without dropping when using any kind of 3d program or game, i still have 40w left from my laptops brick so there is plenty of space and I tried to change the bios already but nothing good happened since the bios is my only weakness.

    Uhh... yeah... well...

    You really don't.

Repaste the GPU, make sure the thermal pads are on right, and good luck. The 880M is a terrible, disgusting, broken mess of a card. I haven't heard of the 4GB versions being a huge pain, but it does not surprise me.

I JUST said nobody can. You have a 4GB version so a custom vBIOS won't exist. Your best bet is applying thermal paste and hoping it improves.

And don't be short with me when you're the one looking for help.

Listen to D2. The 880m unfortunately is a lemon. Repasting is about the only option you have as he stated. I have over 30 years fussing with PC's and electronics and still seek help and advice from users here and elsewhere, so best to be humble and heed advice where given. The 880m has been beat to death by the best, including svl7 and Prema who mod BIOS and vBIOS and little to nothing has helped with the throttle. At this point you'd be a hero if you could get it to *not* throttle. The unfortunate answer is nobody knows. It's just a disaster.

Take a long hard look at this thread, where Pidge from nVidia even gets involved and bails because the situation is dire and can't be fixed: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...problems-with-the-880m-list-them-here.757508/

To reduce the heat I made a cooling pad locked the cpu at 2.6ghz max and the gpu never wet over 65c. So why, just why it has to throttle, my best now is 810mhz lowest in game. I can't believe that a 1500 euro laptop performs like **** just cuz **** you customer. I only payed 900 for this but I am about to sell it

i like my 880m when i leave vsync on and for video editing. only thing i hated was that 5 months later the 980m came out. i'm pretty sure there's a conspiracy to make older cards run worse over time for new games just so nvidia can sell upgrades. 880m is more powerful than ps4/xbone and yet it doesn't get 60fps in some games like they do on the consoles. 3 years from now, i bet the 880m will barely run any of the normal ps4 games. i can see it happening already with the 980m. when it came out it was blowing away next gen games, and now it struggles with batman, witcher 3, and a few other newer games. i think nvidia is doing it on purpose and getting ready for their next gpu launch in the fall. if a card from 2 years ago can max out every next gen game at 1080p 60fps till the ps5 comes out, then no one will have a reason to buy new cards, unless they want 4k gaming or 144fps and so on, which is a smaller market.

^Man take off your tin-foil hat. What are you going on about...

What games do consoles achieve 60 FPS in that 880M doesn't? o_O

Do you know how broken Batman is on the PC?

980M gets well over 60 FPS in Witcher 3 at console settings.

yeah console settings. but not ultra. then a few years from now, the 980m will barely get 30 fps at ultra settings with future games

Then blame TW3's optimization/your expectations/Nvidia holding back mobile GPUs/any combination thereof

Your point? A 580M would be lucky to get 30 FPS at Ultra in new games.

thats my whole entire point. if the made '' future proof gpus,'' then there wouldn't be much point to upgrade.

Well it's more devs than nVidia... usually people optimize for current + 1-2 gens old, but since Maxwell came out it seems that devs have been optimizing for "maxwell" and little else... especially with heavy tessellation in games.

Honestly, anything over a GTX 580 + core 2 quad @ 3GHz is not required to achieve PS4-level graphical quality and performance in any game. EVER. But unoptimization (and optimizing for Kepler as the lowest common denominator) has made the older cards fall out of favour.

ive heard some news sources say nvidia pays the devs to make the games not run as well on older cards. if thats true or not, no body knows. just kind of funny

The money they'd get on new GPU sales shouldn't nearly begin to offset the money they'd require to force unoptimization

I love how people instead of giving interesting ideas start to have a discussion on my question lol, anyway throttling solved you can tank ethrem for it, in the power table I had to bump the 5th column by 20%, now it wont throttle anymore under 954mhz, wohooo
