just wondering if anyone out there has done a review of the Intel GMA x3100 with the old driver vs. the new driver so we can see if the real world performance difference makes it worth considering?

    thanks!

egads! here's another bump. I really am interested to know if the x3100 is decent enough in performance with the new optimized driver. I don't really plan to play any games (tho maybe Trackmania and/or HL2), but I don't want something that's gutless with Vista's aeroglass engine.

surely someone here has a bead on what's what w/the x3100 w/the new drivers, eh?

For one thing the drivers are only a week old and unless Intel was giving out PR copies for reviewers before release (unlikely given the low key nature) it's unlikely for review websites to have something published even if they wanted to do it. There's only been the Intel blog with Intel's own video showing increased performance in FarCry:

From various forums, the drivers do seem to work and improve things, but without a formal review it's hard to tell legitimately how much.

so nothing on the professional level, which isn't a big surprise, for all the factors you pointed out. but...this is a forum of notebook users, so I had thought/hoped that someone here may have done some benchmarking and would have shared any notable differences, etc. :)

I'm still hopeful that someone may have and will see this and speak up

    thanks!

Well we should be seeing reviews of the 14.31 drivers themselves in the next month or so as Intel said they were launching the new desktop G35 chipset soon with the GMA X3500 that the 14.31 drivers added support for. The results might not carry over that well given that the GMA X3500 will be more powerful (10 unified shaders @ 667MHz) compared to the GMA X3000 (8 unified shaders @ 667MHz) and the GMA X3100 (8 unified shaders @ 500MHz).
