Does anyone know the next line of video cards after the 9000 series? And when are notebooks going to start having them?
-
For Nvidia i should br the 260 and 280 etc
-
Supposedly, 2009 will be a year for nVidia to release cards ridiculously faster than what we have now w/ GDDR5 memory. GPUs are becoming computers themselves
.
-
More importantly, when will the ATI 4000 series cards come in mobile form?
-
The 260 and 280 won't be in notebooks for quite a while, unless there's some breakthrough in the Nvidia laboratory.
-
ATI 4XXX and NVIDIAs ultra high-end cards are very...thick. As of now nothing short of fat 17" will hold them. If it's a 15", its a very fat & ugly laptop I promise you. Not exactly "mobile". I give it a couple of months before we begin to see 9800GX2 power into laptops.

Yeah the AMD / ATI 48XX is in some laptops already, I think the Alienware m17 can have Crossfire
-
OCZ Whitebook/Alienware m17 only has 3870s, not yet the 4800 series.
-
I believe the 4000 series will be easier to implement into a mobile form than the GTX series. Then again, I think the ultimate performance/watt was probably the 3000 series, which is why I think they are in the Alienware 17x right now. -
^^ wut Kev said.
The Arima W840 DI (aka. OCZ Whitebook, K|N Nagamaki, AW M17, etc...) only has ATI 3870's ..... NOT 4xxx.
Get your facts straight people. -

ok so I just want to confirm: If I buy the Asus G50VT- X1 for 1099$ this sunday will it be worth it or should I wait until christmas and get a better deal/laptop? NOTE: Ive been waiting 4 years saving up for a laptop so if I mess up it will take a long time before I forgive myself.

I'm going to say GTX 260ish performance when nVidia moves to the 40nm process in 2009, and not to expect anything till Q1 '09. The 9800M GTX is awesome, but overpriced. Would like a bit better performance than what it has to offer, and I think there is thermally a lot of room to support it, especially now that nVidia is manufacturing 55nm. I would not be surprised to see a 9850 GTX or the like, that uses the full 128 shaders and utilizes the 55nm fab and a higher clock speed.
