I wonder if anybody has figure yet. I guess it's only matter of time for someone to crack it.

I thought Halo2 for PC was DX10 only.

Halo 2 is a DX9 game; Microsoft requires Vista for marketing purposes only. To my knowledge, nobody's been able to port it to XP.

Halo probably just checks the version of Windows that it is running on, and crashes if that call returns "XP." Someone will hack it :D. The fact that they made it Vista only is probably going to kill their sales for a while; heck, MS won't even officially announce how many copies they've sold of Vista, probably because it is too embarrassing.

Sure, but how many of those to be preloaded on new PCs?

I wonder how many have been actually bought from software stores.

yeah, I think majority of those copies sold are through pre-loaded OEM, like from HP, Dell etc.

Anyway, back on to the subject of Halo 2 on XP, Falling Leaf claims that they will have Halo 2 for XP ready to ship by late July. Their so called "Alky Compatibility Libraries" seems like the backbone for the XP support.

Here's a summary from what i've read here.

1.) Halo 2 is ONLY for Windows Vista.

    2.) It's a Direct X 9 game.

    3.) ( In my opinion) It's possible for Microsoft to put a Direct X 10 patch..But I doubt it.

4.) I heard from other gaming websites that some people already cracked Halo 2 and are putting it up on XP.

5.) Conclusion- Those who bought Halo 2 better get their serial keys registered, otherwise it'll be stolen. ( In otherwords serial keys are not secure for Halo 2 on microsoft anymore...well, I don't think they are)

Serials is the first thing that gets cracked. So no more worries than with any other game.
