    AMD Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Tech

I reckon around 5700 ish. Also why did you get an old gen cpu? Ivy bridge has 22nm cpu and has a dx11 igpu at 22nm. Anyway the 2670qm should just be enough though. Judging from the link I gave you and the slower cpu you have, you should get around 5700.

Cloudfire I forgot about temps. Anyway pretty sure if you apply a good thermal paste and clean your laptop now and again most computers will run cool.

Overall 83 degrees seems decent for such a high end card. furmark and prime are unusual amounts of stress on a system so being 95 degrees is good that is what it goes to in extreme scenarios.

If you get a laptop manufacturer who gives good thermal paste, has good air vents and cooling system then temps will be good.

well my laptop suppose to have ic diamond paste on both gpu+cpu , so when he sends me a screenshot of a furmark test at 1920x1080 for like 5 minutes at 95c i shouldn't be alarmed??

Based on this forum's posts, there are wide variations in the 7970m's observed ( not referring to the maximum safe) temperatures. With IC Diamond on an i7-3610qm and 7970m, I see 93 C in Furmark and always hover around 85 C in games, even at ~95% utilization. My desktop GTX 580 reaches 85 C in Furmark at stock with ridiculous airflow through my case. Seeing 90 C in a small, enclosed laptop doesn't scare me too much.

That being said, if your 7970m reaches 100 C, as some people have reported, something is definitely wrong.

The Clevo has a decent cooling system but not the best. So yes temps in the 90s, from what I have read here, are common.

yea after the aluminum tape fix + a notepal U3 i cap at about 70C for 3dm11.. before both of those i would finish 3dm11 at around 74-75C

    i have ICD7 on

I repasted with as5 and my temps don't go above 84 in furmark. Is that normal? I was expecting less and this is with fan @100%. It would hit 90 with the stock paste.

sounds about right. try raising the back of your laptop up a bit if you havent already. that greatly lowers temps. AS5 also needs 200 hours to cure before you see its maximum potential

Thanks will do. Also, what about the cpu hitting 87C in very high IBT?

not sure what IBT means, but raising the back of your laptop will also lower CPU temps. i use a notepal U3 and i havent broken 74 on my processor. Just putting some gatorade caps under the rubber feet at the back of your laptop should give your a 3-4C decrease

omg why nvidia and amd just post the ideal max load temps for each graphic card they manufacture and end this excruciating debate , everyone have a ideal temps of their own.

They can't measure the max temperature of the card in because of variations in notebook cooling designs between manufacturers.

I haven't tested that at all because I've been running enduro ever since I got my M17.

    Temps depend on the laptop.

Hey Cloudfire, just want to say something regarding this... when it comes to the 680m performance you don't trust NBC, when it comes to the 7970m temps you do... :D

Anyway, I guess it can go so high, depending on the heatsink, astonishingly I never hit so high temps with my 7970m, even though the heatsink was never designed for such a high-end card.
The 6900m series could easily hit 85-90°C in my system, the 7970m never even reached 80°C, even overclocked and overvolted...

Yeah I do because those temperatures seem to be identical with many people from this thread.

They release chip with a design TDP.... It is up to manufacturers to find the best method of their convenience to be able to dissipate up to the card's rated TDP.

There are many in that same thread that you linked to that do not have such high temps, and you seem to ignore those.

the dealer just contacted me and he told me something really weird , the 7970m with 3610QM is producing 79c after 5 min of full load while the 2670QM is producing 90c after 5 min of full load , i told him to ship anyway because you guys told me 95c is still alright.

I just got my 7970M installed in my NP8170 today, and it is running a lot cooler than my 6970M. 3dMark11 my temps topped out at 69C on stock clocks with an ambient temperature of 28C. With a 10 minute Xtreme Burn-in run on FurMark, max temps levelled out at 82C on stock clocks.

I just pasted it with ICD about 10 minutes ago, and am not using a cooling pad, and don't even have the back raised at all. This thing runs cool. Overclock temps to come soon.
