I've switched down to a 156 series driver, and it still doesn't work. Ntune switches it back to the stock clocks immediately after it says that it passed the test. The stock speeds on this 8400m gs is 400 core and 399 memory, which seems much lower than the others who are 400/600 factory speed. And this is a 15" notebook. Rivatuner won't even let me test, I click the test button, it turns gray, and then nothing happens. What's wrong?

I've heard that with the new 8xxxM cards won't allow over clocking with those newer drivers until they do something with the OCing tools, or just make some new ones.

I'm having the same problem with my 8400 GS. Does anyone know which driver is best that would allow me to overclock it?

You can't overclock with the 16x.xx series drivers.

I know that. If you read my post, I say I downgraded to a 156.65 driver to try to overclock. I guess we'll just have to wait for the overclocking tools to catch up? Or a BIOS overclock... but I don't particularly want to dig that deep into my system.

When you downgraded the drivers, did you completely clean the 16x drivers from your system?

I used driver sweeper, and rivatuner doesn't show any 16x.xx driver files on there. With the 16x drivers, it didn't try to test the new overclock settings at all when you hit apply. It just went right back to stock. With the 156 driver, it tests it, but right after the testing it goes back to factory settings.

What version of Rivatuner are you using? If it's 2.04 or 2.05, you could try this:

    1. In Rivatuner's main menu, click Power User.
    2. Then, click on RivaTuner \ NVIDIA \ Overclocking.
    3. Click on the ShaderClockRatio tab that has now been listed. Double click on the Value field next to it, and enter a value of -1. According to Rivatuner's documentation, this setting makes the Shader overclock automatically along with your Core clock setting (since driver 163.67 you can overclock shaders independently - before this was done automatically).
