hey guys . just when i decided and was about to buy my gaming laptop , the nvidia 7950 gtx became available for notebooks . which is better now ? 2 nvidias 7900 gtx in SLI with 1 gb vram or the new nvidia 7950 gtx with 512 vram ? ( they dont have sli for the 7950 yet ) . im leaning towards the 7900 sli because it has 1 gig of ram and the 7950 has 512mb vram . but maybe im wrong ? maybe the 7950 is faster even though it has less vram ? i know for sure that the 7950 GPU is faster than the 7900 but other than that im not so sure . please enlighten me on this . thank you !

Probably SLI if you don't care about battery life.

All of the SLI laptops are powered by a single-core AMD Turion 64 processor, which is a weakness considering it is paired with two of the fastest graphics cards on the mobile market. I would suggest going with a Core 2 Duo + Go7950GTX notebook. Although two Go7900GTX's will be stronger, like I said, those laptops have a single-core CPU.

The amount of VRAM won't make a difference considering all of the cards have 512MB of memory. Even the dual 512MB setup is actually only 512MB effective since the data is mirrored in both cards.

You are talking about extreme performance either way. As Chaz said, the processor and some other components on the current SLI systems are a bit of a letdown.

I agree that a single-GPU monster like the Sager NP5760 with go 7950GTX would be the way to go. It's much less expensive than SLI systems and is a beast.

hey guys and thanks for the reply . sager is what i was looking at actualy . i was gona get the 19 inch 5950 with sli . but now its either the 5760 which has core2duo or the 9750 which has athlon 64 X2 , both offering the nvidia 7950 . so if i get it and crank those demanding games to high detail , will the game start skipping ? also should i pair it with the core2duo or the athlon 64 X2 ? smooth , highly detailed gaming performance is the only thing im worried about really ...

Those cards will play those games at high detail easily... at high res too. You really only need SLi if you want uber performance on WUXGA or 2 or more monitors...

    Chaz,

the new SLI notebook (Clevo M590KE) is gonna house a Turion X2. So that might make it even sweeter with (SLI-mode) nvidia 7950 GTX.

So the SLI notebooks have dual core now

Heres a link of an OEM already taking orders

That's great news indeed for SLI buyers.

Someone still needs a Core 2 Duo+SLi machine. But the Clevo with the Turion 64 x2 is still a great computer, and the enhanced dual core processor should provide performance closer to a Core 2 Duo. Still not the best, but still plenty powerful enough.

@freestyler, I would recommend going with the Core 2 Duo Sager. The Intel processor will be faster and should generate less heat, though my experiences with AMD processors are pretty limited. But my thinking is, if you're going with the top of the line GPU, why not go for the top of the line CPU as well?

The problem I have with SLI machines, is the difficulty with OCing. I'd get the 7950GTX, and OC the heck out of it. It'll be an amazing machine
