    Hello!

I have nvidia 8600m gs 256 mb..and here`s the first question..when i type "dxdiag" in to Run..its shows me that this graphic card have 512mb..i know i can increase/decrease it with my RAM..can anyone please tell me about it more..is there are any big diffirence?

    2. question

Where can i find the latest drivers for XP for my graphic card..
everyone suggests this page http://laptopvideo2go.com/ , but download links don`t work there anymore..if i go to geforce.com they send me to asus page but I can`t find anything there either..
What`s the newest drivers ( or best performance ) XP for nvidia 8600m gs???
I have tried to google it..the newest ones i found is NVIDIA 32bit ForceWare GeForce Go 156.55 Driver.... are they good enough?

    3. question

How to better configure it when i`m playin games..for instance I`m playin call of duty 2..and picture is so BLUR..cant compare it to my desktop computer...(also the newest medal of honor)..everything looks like really blurry and like in slow motion effect..can anyone help?

    4. question

whats the best things i could do to improve performance??
i have read that overclock is fine for 8600m gs ( of course you need to pay attention to temperature)..
i think i my laptop isnt workin well enough..for games

i have intel core duo t7100 @ 1.80 GHZ, 1 GB RAM, nvidia 8600m gs 256 mb, xp SP 2..i know its not some " beast " but i was expecting a little bit better performance!

    Thanks for your help!

Turbocache automatically does it based on need. You don't have to worry about this.

    Sure, why not?

If it's blurry, up the resolution. If it's slow, down the resolution/settings.

Overclocking your GPU voids the warranty for your entire computer. You also probably won't see that big of a difference, as you don't have enough cooling in a laptop computer to effectively overclock by much.

    Thanks Clutch66! :)

Yeah it seems threres no big diffirence between those latest drivers...I`m just not so wealthy thaats why im trying to get out as much FPS in games as possible :) ( at least to gain some diffirence )

Yeah i kind of know its up to resolution and it sucks :(...when i put 1280 x 800 call of duty runs smoothly and picture is great and sharp..but its laggy even if i put low texture settings :/..the best thing is about 800x600 but then i get this blury picture

    about overclock i found this

An overclock of 10% or more will create a noticable increase in performance (10% more FPS, I.E. If it was 30 before, now its 33. I've heard that the 8600m GT is VERY overclockable (in most cases). I think if you managed to clock your memory up 25% you'd be set. Its possible with some 8600m GTs (on an individual basis) to clock up the memory almost 50% (I've only heard of this once), that would REALLY be a noticeable overclock. If you clock up the memory quite a bit, you should be extra careful. Keep a very close eye on your GPU temperature readout. The highest temperature I've heard of for an 8600m GT overclock is 93 degrees Celsius. Personally, I wouldn't dare go above 90 degrees Celsius.

Good luck, the gap in performance isn't quite as drastic as some think it is, and even the GDDR2 models are vastly superior (2 times as powerful, in fact) to my X800m, which runs most modern games (FEAR, HL2) on high settings at 1680x1050 at 25+ FPS (and 40+ FPS in the case of HL2) and REALLY modern games (Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes) at medium settings and 1440x900 with 20+ FPS.

And remember, when you overclock, increase Mhz about 5-10 and then test out the results. If things are doing well, increase another 5-10 Mhz. When things start to artifact or the temp goes above 90 Celsius, bring the overclock down 15Mhz or so and that will generally be your safest overclock value. NEVER start out ramping up Mhz in 50+ chunks. I did that once and completely fried my $250 7950GTX.

    1. Upgrade to 3GB of RAM, that will allow turbocache to use the maximum amount of virtual video memory.

    2. Go here for the latest XP drivers, make sure you download both the driver and modded INF file. Look in the stickies for more help on upgrading video drivers.

    3. For COD2, try playing in DX7 mode, that way you should be able to up the resolution. For MOHAA, you'll likely have to lower the settings all the way down.

    4. Getting the RAM will help, as stated above. Overclocking is also an option, I personally like Rivatuner.

BTW, would you mind downloading 3dmark06 and seeing what results you get? Also, what laptop do you have?

WOW thanks a lot ODIN...COD2 is perfect now!!! no lags..sharp picture..
how much does it cost to upgrade memory to 3 GB approximately?
I guess I gotta get some additional cooler par or something to start any experiments with overclock..

Okie, im gonna download 3dmark06 and post my results here

Thanks for your help again :)

If that gig of RAM is a single stick, then upgrading to 3GB would be about 40USD. If it's two 512mb sticks that you have now, then you'll have to replace both of them for about 60USD.

And I was asking what make and model laptop you had.

    May I assume a BenQ S41 Joybook, fr4kvent?

    It's the exact same specs as my friend's S41 . . . but correct me if I'm wrong, it's just an assumption, anyway . . .

Yes 8600m GT is very overclockable. GPU typically can get around 600MHz -about 25% up from 475 stock. DDR2 Memory is typically stable up to about 500MHz - about 25 % up from 400 stock. So since both GPU and Mem are o/c'd it offers a substantial 'fps' advantage.

I know 3DMark06 is a debatable benchmark, but its a good basis for comparison. With stock speeds I could only get about 3200, but with o/c (and updated drivers) I could get over 4000. This translates into a noticeable fps boost in most cases.

I live in Latvia, i had about 1400$ and i wanted to get a laptop for playin the newest games ( to play them without lags in mid graphic and texture details)
My friend works at some computer store so the best deal for 1300$ i think i could get is this laptop..

lol, model is ACME i`m afraid you haven`t heard a lot about these laptops..
it`s somethin like ASUS ( i assume just more cheaper version )

here are the results from 3d mark06 (ver. 102 *witout paches, i guess)

    and heres the excel file

    HERE

when it came to CPU tests..holy **** it dropped to 0-1 fps lol

I really appreciate your help! :)

That score is a little low, but not too bad for your card. I would look around for the best deal on a single 2GB stick, and install that. It should be fairly cheap, and would help a lot with performance.
