hi, wenn i try to install a new driver (198.05 from ms update) then i get:

The nvidia control panel could not be installed. Latest working driver will be restored.

    What i did:

    Uninstall nvidia physx + driver
Drivesweeper to clean everything from nvidia
    CCleaner
    restart
    installing driver

    anyone got an idea? :S

Also i have a strange problem with windows update.. it says "the page failed to load" when running the windows update explorer.

    Win7 x64 Prof.
    Laptop: Asus G50vt-A1

@edit: i just realised that i also cleaned the "Nvidia chipset drivers".. i jsut restored the backup.. hope i didnt destriy everything with that :S

Try another driver, ive had this problem with many drivers...Sometimes it was from a corrupted dl, others from incorrect inf file. You should use the 29.47 driver that's posted here.

    tried it, didnt work aswell..

i´m sure its not the driver which causes the problem.. but smth else on the system (like an old driver or i dont know).

did all the different uninstalling and removing procedures that google/nvidia offers :S

Did you use the driver sweeper to clean the remnant of the old drivers in safe mode? From what you have experienced, it seems to me that you got some left over of your old drivers.

hmmm, that's weird. Can you access the nvidia control panel with other drivers in the past? What's your last working drivers?

i had the dox 195.62 for years and it worked fine.. until some day where i realized that the nvidia cp just didnt start anymore (with some .dll error.. which didnt gave any google results).

    also i just realized:
windows update in explorer shows "the page failed to load" and my vmware images wont start anymore too..

If all else fails, you can always do a clean install of your OS. Being unable to access the Nvidia CP is too big of a problem to just ignore.
