Exactly how powerful is the Geforce 9500M GS. I have been told that it is identical to the 8600M GT, but more power efficient - is this true? according to this acticle: http://www.pcpro.co.uk/reviews/158592 (about half-way down) the 9500M GS is horrible for gaming. What is the truth?
    Thanks for the help.

That was easy, now if only everyone could have the answer within the question they ask, that would make my job a lot easier. I propose this be added to the forum rules. :D

So, are the people who wrote that article incorrect about the 9500M GS?

Depends what you compare it with. Take an 7950 GTX or 8800, and the 9500m is "not so hot".

    They claim that:
"The GeForce 9500M GS is more suited to video than hard-core gaming and didn't quite manage playable frame rates at our lowest settings in Call of Duty 2"
I though that the 8600M GT/9500M GS was a fairly capable graphic card.

Well if you go by model number the 8600M and 9500M are midrange.

for the moment being and with available widely models - yes... although they are shrinked and their model numbers are decreased (8600 -> 9500), just as level of the number (gt -> gs) thus making room for "better" gear to come... after all, they were planning to make 8800gts at least into 9600gt if i'm not mistaken... after all latest 8xxx models are using smaller die size already, so yes - they're die-shrinked.

Indeed. The Geforce 9500M GS will handle anything the Geforce 8600M GT can handle with some improvements. Hers a thread by GenTechPC with some performance tests done on the Geforce 9500M GS, as well as some gaming tests:
