    Hi
I recently bought an alienware m14x for business use (3D Fireworks).
My problem is that the main program i use, works only on xp or vista.
So i've tried to make a dual boot installation (xp/vista + sevenx64). The 2 o/s works fine but the only and major problem is that on xp/vista optimus technology isn't working. I have managed to install nvidia drivers that supports G555M but in the device manager always shown an exclamation mark ''the device cannot start''. As far i understand the o/s always sees as first vga adapter the intel HD...thats my problem. The program i want to use runs with openGL and i need the power of nvidia card...is there a way to force the nvidia run first (maybe via registry) ? I don't care about intel HD...
    PLZ help!!!

*i contact with nvidia but no success.
*i contact alienware and still waiting (4 days).

Where did you manage to find a program that works with Vista but not with 7? Have you tried running it in compatibility mode? Optimus is only supported in Windows 7 so you are very unlikely to get anything meaningful out of either Nvidia or Alienware.

There may not be a driver for it outside of Windows 7. What I would have tried first if I were you was to use Windows Virtual XP Mode. If you are familiar with VMware or other virtual desktop software it works similar to that. We use it for software that isn't compatible with Windows 7, but works on Windows XP.

Download Windows XP Mode with Virtual PC

i know that 99,9% when a program works on vista, works on seven too...but not this one (visual show director). The program opens ok but i don't have 3d real time preview...anyway the only way is to refund and purchase a laptop without optimus technology

Don't create multiple threads, SlackerXL - it's horrible forum etiquette and quite rude. Patience.

well it plays...but i don't know which vga, vmware uses..gpu-z (xp/vmware) reads as vga a vmware svgaII...gpu-z load (on sevenx64 when i use 3d in vmware) is 0% on nvidia. So i think it uses intel HD :(
