We all know that the nw9440 and nx9420 use the same outer shell. We also know that the main difference between the 2 are the warranty and the graphic card. The nx9420 uses the ATi X1600, while the the nw9440 uses the nVidia Quadro FX 1500M. Now, both notebooks have a questionable MXM compatibility, but are the cards from the respective notebooks compatible with each other?

You want to put the FX 1500M in your notebook?

Otherwise, the HP nx9420 was also offered with the NVS 510M (Go 7900), and yes these two notebooks are the same..., so I don't see why not, as long as you find a HP's card since it's not standard MXM format...

didnt know the nx9420 had that option. does this mean the 8710P could get upgraded to a 8800M grade card when they come out? that would be bloody sweet............screw portability, ill buy a trolley for it if i have to.

It is MXM format, it's just no one knows if the cards that fit in will actually work.

The HP nx9420 had only the X1600 in the beginning, then Nvidia released the NVS 510M... and HP offered that option as well.

As for the HP 8710p, the NVS 320M isn't a high-end card, so it might happen but it might take time until Nvidia come up with another NVS card...

Just speculations... noone knows anyway and HP usually don't talk about future upgrades...

I wouldn't rely on that though.

To check if the notebook has a card, you should check out the manuals (online) for that model, specifically, the Service and Maintenance guide. They give you a total break down of all the parts and how to remove and replace them. Seems to be removable from what I can tell.

You have talked to Ice_Tea before, right?

Anyway, I don't think that anyone from this forum have done that, at least I don't know.
