Doom 3, By far, is worse than alot of others people will mention

Fear2. Yes, alma is insane, and there are a few freaky parts, but its noy SCARY. this game scared the pants off of me. I want to see how many people agree with me.

Condemned- Yeah, its a thriller. and it's dark, and people come out of nowhere. Element of surprise, and spooky because its so dark. I give props, but i am going for truly freaky games, not just "its dark, i'm going to get hit by things" game.

Resident Evil- Please. Maybe the ones for PS-ONE, but other than that... no. Just no.

Silent hill- Again. The PS-ONE versions.

Delta labs 3 and He11 levels in Doom3 are absolutely insane. I don't mean hardness, but whoever made this game was f'd in the brain. I commend them for their hard work.

First off, the amount of blood and gore in this game is rediculous. There is enough to go around for multople video games. It is.... i can't even explain it.

Long story short- if you are looking for a freaky game, choose this one.

This screenshot is from UT3, but you'll understand multiple parts int he game.

Anyways, the entire game is like this. Time to move on to the expansion :s

    Enjoy.

Doom 3 was the first scary game I ever played. It was awesome. It was also the first PC game I played that had "omg" graphics (I didnt play many PC games between 1998 and 2004; had a crappy computer so I played mostly old games or on my Gamecube). FEAR 1 was scarier for me, though.

system shock 1 + 2, alien vs predator 1 + 2, FEAR 1 were all scarier imo. the models in doom 3 looked a little too plastic/shiny i think.

I agree with you, but only at the beginning of the game. After a while (like after 2 hours or less) the 'scary' appeal was lost to me on this game.

Yup same here, BioShock is only scary at the beginning. For me FEAR 1 & 2 are not scary at all, probably because I'm all focused on the shooting. :p
Never played Doom 3 (coz at that time my notebook can't handle it) but I find Dead Space pretty scary imo.

The Ravenholme level in Half-Life 2 was scary as hell.

Doom 3 is bar none the scariest game I have ever played. The whole atmosphere was scary. Well, at least for the first 2/3 of the game. Near the end it was just a grindfest to finish it.

Have you finished the game? Later on (near the end and at the end) it got pretty scary again. I don't want to spoil anything too much, so I won't say what parts I am thinking of. PM me if you want to know, though I doubt you do :p

^^Agreed, Doom 3 is the most scariest game i have ever played, maybe due to the fact i was completely immersed in the game, Fear 1 or 2 i didnt find very scary, they were just creepy at some points.

I could not finish Doom 3. It scared the living s**t out of me early on in the game and I could not continue. I'm thinking about taking it up again tho'. FEAR and Dead Space were walks in the park compared to Doom 3, imo.

I found Eternal Darkness scarier. Doom3 got a lil repetetive after a while (yeah I've completed it, so I know what happened :)); whereas Eternal Darkness, even with its graphics, being a gamecube released, n64 intended title and all, was really really wierd, I dare anyone who's played it through not to remember the bath scene 0.o

All the wierd sanity effects, and sounds et all just really worked. Slightly Silent Hill esque in that though I guess.

the first time i played doom 3, i had to stop playing it. I actually returned the game to the person i got it from and said "No. No more." I tried it again later, then my computer died. Now i'm at the "grindfest" at the end, and it's scary as s**t. i HAVE to play it at night. there is no possible way i'm going to stay away from ressurection of evil. They Cyberdemon better be something special, or i'm going to be disappointed. The ending makes any game worth it, as long as it all comes together.

neither FEAR or FEAR2 were as dark and they did not have even close to the amount of gore. There were certain parts (like with her sitting on the tree, or when you run away from her in the hallway or you burn) that were meh spooky, but if you think FEAR was scary, you're a "lightweight". I say that in the most offensive way possible. i played both, and it was yourr standard FPS with darkness and a supposed-to-be-creepy storyline. There are people that just say its scary because it is called FEAR (like me, until i played it)

Actually some people probably found FEAR scary because its more psychological. They're different sorts of games. Doom3 is a jump-scare game, whereas FEAR tries to creep you out a bit, this works better on some people than others, in other words Doom3 tries to make you jump, whereas FEAR tries to make you feel a bit unnerved/uncomfortable, two different routes down the same track and stuff. Kinda like Western vs Asian horror films. Fear2 wasnt that scary in comparison from what I've seen though. :)

Yes, the gravity was definitely odd.

I remember playing it on my PC LCD and i felt REALLY bad. No other game has really done that to me before. I had to hook it up to an external LCD.

I disagree. Doom3 was hard to handle- its deffinitely psychological. i wasn't able to handle it until i was 18. -cough- It's messed up. i did not say scariest game, i said most messed up. An amount of blood and cogre like that is hard to come by. I challenge you to find another game that has people melt when you hit them with a flashlight

Aye, but not in the same way, you're missing the point a little. Doom3 uses the shock school of thought to produce the chills, aka making you jump or just making you think 'ew', you then don't want to play because this puts you off; FEAR does it by trying to work on your nerves and making you feel uncomfortable and nervous, which in turn makes you afraid, its more of a psychological than a shock factor game, both effective, but both work better on different people. Both games work on you from a completely different angle. Doom 3 really does get a little repetetive in that regard; actually some scenes in Quake4 are a little messed up as well :/

As I said earlier; I'd regard Eternal Darkness as more messed up; stuff like your body going to pieces; hallucinations, scratchings coming from the inside of walls, seeing yourself in a pool of blood; blood suddenly dripping down walls etc...it's a pretty wierd game. hehe

I can't think of a game that's messed up, but left 4 dead gave me one of the worst shocks in my life.

First, i was playing at 12pm lights off everyone was sleeping and i couldn't sleep cuz of a rash. Then i was searching those rooms for survivors when one zombie jumped out at me and i just booked it to my bed and stayed there, heheh, call me a pansy

Eternal Darkness was AMAZING ........and somehow i missed it :(

Alot of people agree though that it is one of the scariest ones ever.

The game would mess around with you, i heard like for example the sccreen would go blank and stuff to make you think the game took the TV off, it was part of the scare. It would also tell you that your controller was disconnected when it wasnt haha

Thats just one of the many many fun filled random creepiness that goes on; the story is lovely; old gods, people going mad and murdering thier servants; your grandfather being murdered...lovely stuff lol

And yeah the game would do all sorts off stuff like that; fake your death or disc read errors as hallucinations, volume bars going up and down of thier own accord; all sorts of wierd, messed up stuff.
The graphics are dated now; back in the day it took me some time to complete though; it really did make me feel uneasy sometimes.

So many people have never heard or played it though because it was on Gamecube...it was bloody brilliant :(

I agree with Alexrose. I guess I'm not scared of Doom 3 much is because I watched Saving Private Ryan, We Were Soldiers, and all these WWII gore to the max movies since I was a kid (yea... not the greatest thing for kids XD). But FEAR scared the crap out of me. I can handle gore, stuff jumping out of me just makes me jump a bit, but FEAR's psychological tactics were insanely hard to endure.

The scariest game I remember playing was Silent Hill. I got it in early 2000 I think, and my cousin who was older than me kept saying I should play it at night with the lights cut off. Well I wasn't going to be a chicken, so of course I turned the lights out, cranked the volume up one night, and never beat the game......a few years later I got Silent Hill 3 and even though I was older it was still creepy.

Edit: When I was really young I used to play Doom, Wolfenstein etc and the only that happened was at first I used to get motion sickness but never scared...then one day my dad bought the "7th Guest" its an adventure game set in old haunted mansion (had real video at parts and was the 1st game we had that used cd-roms) not sure what it was about that game but I would never play that game when I was home alone

Doom 3 is really just about monster jumps outta closet type of scares. It was pretty good but went on too long imo. The scares kind of lost their impact since it was the same old same old over and over. The game is also a lot better with a gfx mod. Oh and mapping your flashlight/shotgun toggle to a thumb button is a must imo. I really could not have played this game any other way.

Although Dead Space employed a lot of the same technique I think the overall atmosphere and story made it scarier and more enjoyable for me. I also liked the FEAR games better, but they are not necessarily scarier, just better games overall than Doom 3. Although there was some pretty messedup stuff in those FEAR games! ;)

The most scare game i have ever played was Eve Online, when i had to move plex items worth almost 10billion ISK using a 6billion ship through 3 Enemy solar systems =P

At the second gate, when i landed, i saw 2 activations O.O! I had my heart in my mouth till i saw it was just to miners carebears transporting ores xD
