Its not playable.. it just isnt! Actually reminded me of CS 1.6?

How could this be, did I get the wrong version or what.

In a final attempt I maxed out every setting and it didnt run smooth.. but boy it still was UGLY!

I just wanted a nice and simple shooter to play..... now what. :(

Im currently still playing Fallout 3, which is awesome, but I want a light snack to game when bored... any suggestions?

My suggestion: stop being a graphics and learn to appreciate gameplay.

    Also: Bioshock.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is definitely not a simple shooter, not a light snack and the original one had beautiful graphics. I especially liked the lighting and textures indoors.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R. is all about atmosphere and the graphics don't look clean, but IMO still or because of it are great, and are a total opposite to CS artistic wise, you can't compare them at all.

    Serious Sam HD.

It's wacky, repetitive, without any form of cohesive story and very very fun. It's only $20 on Steam.

    Pong HD.

It's wacky, repetitive, without any form of cohesive story and...kind of fun? It's free off the web.

Does Pong HD have screaming headless people that run after you and explode? I think not. Game, set, match Serious Sam.

As you've already heard OP, STALKER is a great game of depth and substance - if you want shallow graphical eye candy look elsewhere.

I don't know who told you S.T.A.L.K.E.R. would be a nice simple shooter, but they definitely sent you in the wrong direction. None of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games have ever been thought of as "nice simple shooters".

Ugly? should probably check your settings, it starts out with a lot disabled, and the game is not exactly laptop friendly especially not a mid to low end system like yours. Ugly seriously?

Well this little piggy is ugly for sure.

I guess mainly run down industrial areas wouldn't be exactly pretty either. :D
Maybe Halo is more your style? I think you can get it for less than $10 now, and I am sure you could download some training wheels, errr sorry a trainers to help you out if it is too hard.

Lol, getting what he deserved. Although, the graphic engine is showings its age, me thinks. Direct X 11 saved it from being utter eye candy garbage but I still would have played it for the friggin' amazing gameplay.

Oh X-ray engine is definitely showing it's age, especially since it started development in 2003, Call of Pripyat is also the last on this version of the engine. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be on a different engine or maybe an updated version of X-ray, on the good side they will be dropping DX8 support, which I feel was really holding them back. Unfortunately, like most developers GSC is rumored to be throwing it's hat into the console market. They received a Microsoft XBox development license right before Clear Sky was released. There are also rumors they will just be porting the early games (SoC, Clear Sky and Call of Pripyat) first so the PC games (S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2) will be done first then ported to console later. I hope that is true. If not, Call of Pripyat could be the last of the PC exclusive titles from GSC.

You are right though, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. isn't about graphics, it's about atmosphere (which this game is just packed with), and gameplay, but it's not for everyone, cause it is not easy. If run and gun is your game, stick to Halo, that style only gets you killed all the faster in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. lol

Stalker series is a speficic aproach towards FPS as a whole. You need to get used to more demanding gameplay rules to survive.
I agree however, that Stalker engine is bad, very demanding, often stutters and graphics aren't top notch in today's standards. But I must say I like the series for it's uniqe athmosphere.
