update:
this is caused by non standard refresh rate.
if your refresh rate is anything above 60, you can edit the video.con file (under user docs bf2/2142 profile) and change the refresh rate in there to whatever yours is.
if your refresh rate is BELOW 60 (59 in my case) this will not work.
i have tried different driver sets, force refresh rate etc nothing works![]()
ok. im at the end of my rope and ready to send this laptop back. bf2 and
2142 will NOT work with vista.
ive changed video drivers (tried 8 different version)
changed direct x installs (about four different versions of dx9)
updated sound drivers, disabled all the security, ran them as admin, reinstalled, tried the "single core only" command line, and varius other things.
bf2142-
screen changes resolutions, goes black, crash.
states renddx9.dll is the cause
in event viewer, its linked up with kernel32.dll memory.dll and a couple of others.
bf2-
no crash, just does the same thing without crashing
event viewer states nothing.
any ideas?

Hi.
try deleting 'My Documents/Battlefield 2142/mods/bf2142/cache' first. That contains the cache so you don't have to optimize shaders every time.

Check your refresh rate. It needs to be at 60hz, or the game won't start.
-
t9300 (2.5) 3gb ram, 8600gs
tried the chahce thing, still nothing
my laptop says its 59hz refresh rate with no option of changing it. wonder if thats it? how do i change that? -
whats your screen resolution? (1200x800, etc..) bf2 may not startup if your using a non-supported res. you can however force a res from the command line.
there is a bf2 tech faq here:
http://www.forums.electronicarts.co.uk/battlefield-2/285697-warlords-bf2-techy-thread.html -
that's it. I have the same problem and as far as I know, there is no fix. 59 hz is the problem.
-
wow. paid so much for a laptop that cant play games...... so theres no fix for the 59hz thing?

I can run BF2 on both Vista 32 and 64 fine
even on my native 1280x800 res but in-game res is diff -
dondadah88 Notebook Nobel Laureate

Go into Documents>Battlefield 2>Profiles>0001 or 0002 depends which one you want to use. 0001 is the default one>Video>change the line that looks like "VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@60Hz" to "VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@59Hz"
I was having the same problem, except with 63Hz.
EDIT: Looks like Daniel G beat me to it. -
BF2 and BF2142 all work PERFECTLY on Vista 32. Your irregular refreshrate is the problem.
Force refresh rate with RivaTuner...go to the "Power User" tab (where Rivatuner tells you not to change any settings), and there is a "force override refreshrate", change it from 59 to 60, check the box saying "apply settings on startup", restart you lappy and you should be ready to go.
Happy BFing!!! -

G1S and G2S users had the problem and fixed it long ago with there 62hz refresh rate. Its probably the same link above (have not checked it yet) but yeah BF2 & 2142 work in Vista fine even Vista x64.
omg battlefield 2 and 2142 under vista 32bit
