    Hello,

I currently own a Nvidia GTX 650m 2gb GDDR5 but i have to say im a little bit disapointed by it. In benchmarks it has been great with a nice overclock it easily beats a 660m but for my 3D cad work it is not doing that great. Scored close to 1800 points in PassMark and for 3D mark graphics 2400 and with my i5 3210m 2522 total. As i said in benchmarks i see a big gain up to 4 times better than my integrated graphics but when doing Google Sketchup projects it is only like 50% better than the HD4000 integrated graphics. I had to say i expected a bigger gain. My heavy projects a detailed station with many downloaded things like benches and with lots of textures the fps goes down by quite a bit and it is not really that fluent anymore.

I know that is not the chip that is not doing well it is the drivers that are not good for 3D cad. I presume even a low end profesional graphics card like the K1000m wil be better for 3D cad than my 650m im curious about this because lots of the people from my uni have a K1000m (from all those 400 people in my year i think i have the best gaming/benchmark chip tho).
Now was i wondering how could i optimise my 650m preformance for 3D CAD. I once reaad something about installing the drivers from quadro cards for my chip but i wouldnt know if this is possible. It might really be worth trying as it might dramaticly increase preformance. Might you have other sugestions any help is really welcome!

    thanks!

Can't you configure your CAD software? Some software has something like graphics settings in games. AA, how well parts are drawn, etc.

only a bit. You can select the hardware accelerator what i have done but nothing like you said. I think the problem is due to lack of open GL. I might be open to external GPU as well. But i guess that will be an expensive joke and i wouldnt know if my Ge60 would support one

there isn't really anything you can do for sketch up. Maya there is a couple things you can do, autocad and solidworks there is a lot more that you can do. I am confused, what kind of design work do you do with sketch up? I have played with it for a little bit and it was nice to make a rough model, but I couldn't figure out how to be accurate with it.

i have designed a station with it. You indeed have to kinda learn it and understand it before it makes sense. I made this:
    3D 2 station.jpg 3d achterkant.jpg

I was looking into getting quadro graphics with a modded inf someone made. I tried it out but it wasnt working the wasnt any good hardware found Nvidia program said. That might be because of that was a desktop quadro driver. Has anyone experience with it

Guide : How to use Quadro Drivers on GeForce Cards
    i tried out this one

i avent seen any mods for Kepler cards yet :(

    – Nvidia Quadro 301.42 WHQL BeTa Modded inf
i have found this link. I have downloaded that driver the quadro 301.42 and the modded inf. When i replace the nv_disp file with the download from that link it doesnt work. It still says my hardware isnt compatible. WHat is the problem?

ok maybe I mean a different thing when I wrote design. I meant something that you could build from, like plans for a building with dimensions of rooms or a part with enough information to build the part . don't get me wrong I have seen some ok pictures of renderings but you can do so much better in solid works and autocad. With better textures and resolutions the difference is night and day. I could be wrong but I haven't seen anything with great graphics with the pictures I have seen.

I wish you luck in finding something to make it run better.
