ive been having some problems with my sound. i keep getting pops and squeaks, which show as big jumps in latency in DPC latency checker.

i suspect my video drivers are to blame since i often get the jumps when i scroll quickly through web pages. ive also updated, disabled>tested>enabled near all my other hardware in device manager. ive narrowed it down to either my graphics or my USB's.

is there any real danger in increasing my 2D clock speeds to see if this affects the latency? since they are limited to 255 -510- 150 in 2D which is no where near as high as in 3D settings is there any danger asociated with doing this? obviously il keep a good eye on temps, but increasing idle clock speeds shouldnt cause any damage should it?
no idea if it will solve the latency problems, but its worth a shot so long as it doesnt fry my GPU.

    [edit] my 3D clocks are stock at 500 - 1000 - 400. [/edit]

ok, scrap that, ive just jumped all the speeds to the max with no effect, however changing to vista basic has dropped the latency graph by a looong way.
