this may not be in the right area, but i am beginning to think that the fan where the gpu is located doesnt spin. should it spin only when under a load? my idle gpu temp is usually about 45-46celsius. is that rather high? i do know that in order to get to the heat sink it involves near complete full disassembly. any suggestions as to whether the gpu fan may be faulty, or if it only turns on when under high loads?

The fan only turns on once the gpu reaches 70c

Uh, what does it do when you play a game or something? Temps under load are all that matter in the end.

And 46C is actually considered at or slightly lower than average.

Downgrade to Bios .17C. It is actually better for cooling than the later versions which disable the fan until you hit a certain temperature. I stick to it and rarely ever go over 70 degrees even during full gaming load. The fans are very quiet, I see no need to have them completely off as heat is a damaging factor to the lifetime of your GPU.

recently i started playing wow again. i was playing over the weekend under ultra just to see how much more visually pleasing the game was, i concluded that it isnt all that more amazing than fair or good settings. well while running under ultra i would have fps in the area of 40-50 maybe a bit more at time. after some time of playing, i noticed a serious drop in fps. i was getting around 6-8fps. i didnt have any of my heat monitors on, but when i did turn them on after i exited wow, my temps were around 70celsius, i know it was higher than that though.

i decided to play today as well, under fair settings, and according to speedfan my max temp was 80celsius. under fair settings i didnt notice any drop in fps. i have a pad i play on, but it doesnt have any fans in the pad. i did remove the cover above the cpu fan, and saw some dustbunnies living inbetween the fan and heatsink. i removed them. should i also reapply thermal paste to the cpu? as i have had this laptop for about 2 years. the cpus max at about 65celsius. i do know to get to the gpu it takes near total disassembly of the laptop. what should i do? are my temps okay, or should i not play till i apply thermal paste

80C is well within normal ranges. The only time to show concern is at 95 or higher.

The dust was probably the biggest problem. I wouldn't worry about temps being around 80. 85+ is common under load. Worry as you approach 100.

My current bios are 9c.17.00, where would I find older bios versions? Today while playing wow under fair settings i ran speedfan in the background. I didn't suffer any drops in fps but when I went to the bathroom I alt-tabbed and checked my temps. The gpu maxed at 91c, the CPU was much cooler. Perhaps I should try to clean out my gpu fan?

Yes you should and apply some ICD7 or other TIM to your GPU while your at it. You'll be happy afterwards=
