is it possible to play a multiplayer game over the wifi between PCs and PS3? I want to play Rainbow 6 vegas 2 with our neighbour. He would hook up PS3 into his router, I would connect to the wifi from that router .... would we be able to play cross-platform game? thanks for any info...

Don't think so. AFAIK, the only cross platform game currently out is DBZ:BT 3

the developers would have to make the game from the ground up be able to speak to each other. and pc and ps3 i'm sure would take a lot more to be compatible than say the xbox360 and a pc.

what is the major difference between xbox and pc compatibility and ps3 and pc compatibility as you mention? plus I know that since its not compatible now, they would have to re-do the game...but why dont companies like Ubisoft and such make games compatible right away? whats the biggest difference in the game design thats so hard to cross over?

Lets see microsoft owns xbox and creates the mechines so they probably know more about going from one of their os's to another of their os's. Plus it had been done on xbox 360 on games like shadowrun.

It sounds like microsoft is a monopoly for pc platform :) Any major game producing company produces games for PS3, Xbox and PC (see Ubisoft, EA, Activision). So any major Game nowadays is for PS3 Xbox and PC (Call of Duty 4, Assassins creed, Rainbow 6 vegas 2. So why is it easier to make one game in 3 different ways for each platform than one that could be run on any platform? or is it b/c of different technology architecture of consoles (i have no clue about that)? can someone please explain? thank you

Yes FFXI is cross platform because you can use your account on either the PS2/3 or PC.
