to clarify, i'm not looking for a ps3 emulator for my laptop.

I'm looking to use my laptop's monitor as a tv for my ps3. I've found a component to VGA converter, http://www.thegametrain.com/xcm-1080p-vga-box-component-to-vga-converter-p-297.html, and I wondering if people have had any experience doing this, and if so - is the quality good/bad?

I've read the reviews and they are all either really good or really bad.

I'd like to have some personal anecdotes on playing ps3 on a laptop monitor since i've found that the comments people make here are normally spot on.

by the way, my laptop is a t61p - with a 1680x1050 native resolution.

Thanks for any and all help!

I don't believe this is possible. If your laptop has a VGA connector on it, it is going to be output only. It will not accept VGA input from another source. I've never seen a laptop display that could accept external input other than via an analog to digital video digitizer, and that is typically used for turning things like VHS takes into digital video and it wouldn't work well or at all for a PS3 display.

You will need some kind of tv tuner to get video in. The vga port on your laptop is only video out. The cheaper tuners will introduce horrible lag to the video signal. You are better off just getting an LCD monitor/tv

    Better have a faster network.
    Now I never tested.
But the logic to follow would make sense.
Hook up your ps3 to the sling box.
Go your laptop tune to right channel.
And than play at your resoution.
(only problem I see is that tune the ps3 for the right resolution.

Steal a TV from your dorm's lounge.
