for some reason quite randomly my M1710 is performing poorly compared to previously in games like CSS, splinter cell chaos theory and doom3. for example i used to get 80fps on splintercell maxed out but now its 30fps. but when i do 3dmark its about the same as before. i dont get it.

Try defragging your hard drive, that usually works for me.

Yea just do whatever you can, its probably not a problem with the GPU itself.

Your PowerMizer settings is in the Nvidia Control Panel (Display Properties)

make sure it is set to Max Performance.

That happened to me on my ancient Dell desktop. In my case it was dust that was causing overheating. I ended up frying my Ti4600 and I'm fairly certain I caused permanent damage to my P4. Fun times. :p

Yeah just be proactive about it and you'll be fine.

Have you updated/changed video card drivers or installed any new devices recently? One thing that might have happened is that Vsync may have been turned on in the game (or forced on through the Nvidia control panel). If that's the case, that may be what's limiting your framerate.

Meh_cd might be right - it could just be dust choking the fans and causing the GPU to overheat and downclock it... although that wouldn't explain why your 3DMark06 scores have stayed the same...

just a suggestion but i know when my buddies notebook came in it defaulted the AA and AF maxed out in the Nvidia control panel. i told him to turn it to application specified so the game controls the AA and AF. might be something to look into. im not trying to call u an idiot either, im just suggesting.try the dual core hot-fix for xp that might be something. but i still dont understand why ur 3dmark scores are the same.
