i am thinking of buying a notebook with this in. i have heard it is very powerful but just how much.
what current games would tax it to its limit?

Crysis, World in Conflict & Lost Planet (very badly optimised game) will use it to its limit.

It is the strongest mobile card though.

You could probably wait for the 8800M though.

If I had the choice I'd get a 8700M though, just for HDR + AA =/

7950GTX is the #3 mobile card on the market right now. It falls, I think, 2000 points behind SLI-7950GTX in 3DMark '06, and 1500 behind SLI-7900.

The 7950 GTX is the best SINGLE mobile card. Only two GPUs in SLI beat it.

Bioshock is a pretty taxing game - I can play it at 1920x1200 with max settings, but the framerate is kind of lousy (20FPS, +/-). Lowering the resolution to 1280x800 (which still looks perfectly fine on a 17" screen) gives me a very playable 30-45 FPS.

If you can wait, wait for the next-gen DX10 card (8800M?), since it will be more powerful and DX10 compatible.
