Just got done installing the game and when it prompted to set a desktop icon, I clicked yes. Now I tried to play the game for the first time and so I click the desktop icon (i even tried rightclicking and running as admin) but it gives me the error :UNHANDLED EXCEPTION: ACCESS_VIOLATION

why can I not play diablo II? Is there something I'm missing? Thanks guys.

I had this problem with D2 back on XP as well. Blizzard suggests applying the latest patch to try and see if that fixes the problem.

Otherwise, its uninstall, reinstall -- rinse and repeat until it works.

Hi admiam - Thanks for your help. I'm fairly new to games so I think I'm doing something wrong.

I went to that website and I downloaded the patch under orginal. It downloaded to my desktop... is there something I'm supposed to do with it? It still doesn't work. Thanks a lot
