Ok here it is
I have pc fallout 3
I have an Asus g50vt a1
I can play at semi high graphics, however there is many places where gameplay seems shaky and not solid. Many hiccups and lag.
Im trying to mod but i really haven't got anything yet.
Maybe if i get a 360 controler it will feel better
It plays for the most part OK
I had oblivion for my 360.
It played perfectly. Barely any hiccups or lag or anything. good graphics(probably not as good as the pc. BUT I'm wondering if the PC version has the same problem as fallout 3 shaky not solid feeling gameplay?
Now my 360 is smashed and i won a ps3 and a pc. I only had really one good character and he only got to level 21. I havent reallly explored the full game yet. I'm probably going to make a majical type character. The mods seem so cool...but they can unbalance the gameplay and i can always mod fallout 3.
I'm probably going to end up buying the game of the year edition ps3 version becuase its only 30 bucks while the pc is 50. i only got 32 bucks.
I think the ps3 will have better graphics and gameplay becuase i have hdmi support and its optimized for the ps3 not my exact cmputer. am i correct?

the GotY eddition of ES:IV is only $20...

And on your Asus, if is the one with the 9800m gs, then it should look better then the PS3 depending on what processor you have. -
PC version will have much better graphics
-
Get the PC version. You kinda need it to download all the community mods to fix the broken gameplay Bethesda never cared about.
-
For me Oblivion isn't a game worth playing without Oscoros Overhaul so getting it on PC is the only option. Also I have the same laptop as you and I can play Fallout 3 with the high settings preset without any lag or hiccups. Maybe you should look into using DOX drivers as I know it helped me and a lot of other to play Fallout 3 and many other games more smoothly and you should check into over clocking your 9800m GS to GTS which I have written a guide on how to do it in the Asus section of these forums. It gives about 10-15 percent better performance across all your games.
Oblivion will look much better on your computer hands down and you can get the game for 20 bucks new or 10 bucks used at any eb games they have millions of em traded in.
CA36GTP also took the DOX driver / oveclock to GTS plunge and it enjoying it very much! -
Yep, I'm pretty much done with performance tweaking and very happy with where I'm at. I've never run Oblivion on this system, but I've no doubt it could handle top settings with ease. Probably a little AA on top.
-
Well what settings are you running on?
The PS3 version will have slightly worse lighting, much much worse draw distance, and worse shadows, and renders at 1280x720, and I believe with a 30FPS cap with Vsync to reduce framerate fluxuations. And yes, the analoge sticks definately smooth out the screen movement, buying them for the PC would help with that if it feels choppy because the mouse is so quick and accurate you notice the framerate dips alot more since it slows down the mouse movement, or adds slight a delay to it.
A 9800mGS should far exceed what any of the consoles can do. -
ok I'll buy it for the pc. Now to find it by a store near me. Does walmart really sell it for 49.99? becuase best buy sells it for 20 bucks and so does amazon. but on walmart website it says 49.99
what are DOX drivers? -

I got mine at walmart for 20 so maybe check in store
-
was this the game of the year edition?
-
Sorry..............But Oblivion is overpriced at a $1.99 !

And Fallout 3 was just O.K. It was pretty, a lot of eye-candy and bling-bling, but doesn't do justice to Fallouts 1 and 2 ! Stories were better, more choices, had me laughing out load at least once a day, while during FO3, I laughed maybe once from start to finish!
The best game, by far, that I've played in the last three years is The Witcher ! -
-
I never played oblivion on a pc only on a xbox 360. on the xbox 360 you get achievements so it was actually worth the time and effort to do the quests. you could say ah cool I just unlocked a achievment.
Questing seems kinda pointless on pcs. there is no real reward. if your not willing to quest there is no point of oblivion. everything is always your level and can be beaten. I dont know just seems kinda pointless. -
Im going to download witcher demo and see if thats any good.
Im probably going to buy oblivion for my pc becuase my pc can own it.
then im only going to mod for mainly custom armour until I beat every quest pssible. Then the real modding begins. -
-
ill eventually but the witcher. The demo doesn't have very good graphics though...
I ogt fallout 3 to work beter i tunred off aa and it made most of the frame skipping stop. i also turned down mouse sensativity so screen actually has some time to load be when i turn. I have a eeling oblivion will run much better -
i did the beginning part of witcher where you kill your way to the top of the tower and open the gate. the controls seemed really sensitive. i spent alot of time trying keep the camera steady. its hard to explain. anyway it was good besides that. if i could change the way the camera behaves i would like it more.

The Witcher is an amazing game... in fact its one of my favorite RPGs. I played it on the PC and honestly the first 20 hours I spent just getting used to the controls, they are a bit of a pain. Once you get them though its a blast.
I would def get Oblivion for PC... The user made mods just about double Oblivions content, besides fixing some pretty anoying bugs. Shadows, grass and AA are what kill Oblivion's performance... if you can turn them off or low that will improve performance dramatically. (although I like to keep grass high just cause it really adds a lot in my op) -
Most of the people have most likely never even seen Oblivion on PS3.
PS3 version looks better than fully cranked up PC version. Go check gameplay videos/comparisons. -_-
However you can download unoffical mods, beauty packs and such to PC version what will give you a somewhat better picture. -
-
Yup, a full year later.
PS3 version also featured quicker loading times when compared to X360 version. -
The PS3 version got some improved textures over the 360 version if I remember correctly, but the lack of AA and inability to go beyond the standard 1280x720 resolution means it will never look as good as a capable PC.
-
Slashdot link
They say its an improvement over the 360 version, but I highly doubt it'll come close graphically to the PC. -
Hm. Well I have it on my desktop, laptop and PS3 and it seems to me that colors are much more brighter on the console version, leaving more 'softer' look. Maybe it just feels like this because people play console games on HDTV's..bleh.
-
anyway, mod support made it very clear which version to buy.
-
well i ended up going into walmart
looking at ps3 games saw oblivion goty 20 bucks(or 30 i cant remeber) then i went to pc saw oblivion goty for 20 bucks. last one there. i bought pc version due to having already played the 360 version on HD tv. I probably will eventually buy ps3 version.
edit: WOW, I have to say this is really better than i excepcted and a lot better than fallout 3. I can play it on high settings at 1680x1050 resolution, just with AA off. I havent seen grass yet though so im not sure if im going to turn that off or not. Im going to go find some mods now.
how do i download mods btw im only vagely familar with the process -
well since the ps3 is running the game with an underpowered modified geforce 7800 w/ 512mb of shared memory, the 9800 in your asus should cream the ps3

actually im a Sony fanboy (ps3 launch day owner), though i did just get a 360 in january.

Bought my PS3 recently, as a Blu-ray movie player, as it was rated as one of the better ones out right now. Also bought a few games, just for the hell of it, pc gamer here, but thinking about buying Splitfish's PS3 FragFX v.2 and giving console gaming a whirl !

That is the advantage of PC gaming, you can upgrade your hardware to accommodate new games and get the best possible eye candy and performance. Console gaming is good and one real advantage going for it IMO, they are less likely to have the game pirated. Piracy is what may hurt the gaming industry for the PC, so many people can easily pirate a game now. I have a Wii and PS3 as well but biggest part of my gaming will take place on the PC. Of course I have a decent PC and can play a lot of games on high to ultra high settings for now, a few months newer games will be out and I am sure my graphics cards will not handle a lot of them on high settings(way it always goes after dumping a bunch of money on a new video card).
If I am not playing on the PC then I will come faster to playing on the PS3 over the Wii. If I want a workout though the Wii is good for that. comparing the 2 consoles though as far as graphics go the PS3 beats the Wii hands down, I mean on my 1080P HDTV you can really see the difference in games. Also, the Xbox 360 just didn't cut it in my eye, to me it is all about the graphics of the game, playability, and selection of games. The Xbox 360 just couldn't compare to me in the graphics and then playability areas so I got rid of it for a new Wii with a bunch of extras such as the Fit board and numerous games. main reason for the Wii is cause I know my kids will really get a kick out of the Wii.
Now, Oblivion I have on both the PS3 and PC. I don't have the GOTY editions though. I do however have the add-ons for the PC version, which I don't even play YET. I may end up getting back into the game again. Honestly the PC version blows away the PS3 version although the PS3 on a good 1080P HDTV looks pretty good too.
Again, Fallout 3(FO3) I read people putting down. Good game, if a person likes Oblivion then they are most likely going to like FO3. I like it, think it looks and plays good on the PC and PS3. Of course PC version plays better and looks better when you have a good system to run it.
The Witcher, that game is a joke from the little bit I played of it. Not much I can say cause it just could not draw my attention into it like other RPG type games can. I guess I really should not put it down and force myself to put it back on the PC and force myself to play it a while longer. Never know, I may get involved enough to find out I really hate it or like it.
When I got the Ps3 one of the first reasons why was do to Blu-Ray when it won over HD-DVD. I knew eventually Blu-ray was the way things were going then and decided to start getting me a little Blu-Ray collection going. The other thing about the Ps3 is it is an upconverting DVD player too. Glad that firmware came out to allow that. -

whatever,pc will crush the ps3 and xbox 360 graphics and physx in any games.

Ok first you will need to get the mods. There are a variety of places to get them but this is one of my favorit spots.
http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.list
Next you will have to install the mods... some are exe (self executable) but most are not. you will have to go in and put the individual files in their appropriate directories (meshes go in the meshes folder etc). then you will have an esp file that you will have to activate in the oblivion launch window. Once a mod is installed checking/unchecking the esp in the activation window will turn it on or off.
Hope that helps... if you have more questions about the mods just let us know. -
PlanetElderScrolls is the best modding community there is for the Elder Scrolls series. I've used them intensively for both Morrowind and Oblivion and they have some pretty epic mods.
My favorite mods for Oblivion are the texture, sunlight, landscape and draw distance mods, they greatly improve the gaming experience. -
ok im trying to use tes nexus.com right now if they but so far i haven't been getting very far. maybe ill go to that other site
also whats the button for console becuase "~" is not working........ -
i was wrong. I didnt think the pc version would be that fun without achievements but after looking through a 4 series video on ebay of all the mods its really sweet. seems like pc version is the best to have.
-
yes, but apparently vista affects console button, i cant use it
-
^there is something you can do to make the ~ work, cause i did it so i could use some cheats in Fallout 3 and the it didn't work. Try browsing google
-
You disable an IR sensor in Device Manager.
Anyway, why is the PC version superior?
