quake wars beta...

is there really nobody playing the quake wars beta? did everyone collectively bail on that? i guess battlefield is better... sadly...

it could have been SO GOOD...

 

Or, it could be that there are a limited number of keys available, and not everyone got one. The beta is closed now and I for one am out of luck.

It is awesome, Ken and I played it. It is seriously a UT-Killer.

 

There was a lot of people playing when it first came out. I don't know if they got tired of playing on the same map over and over again or what.

As for my thoughts on it, I think its pretty fun but it needs a lot of tweaking and polish. The marines rifles and machine guns feel a bit underpowered compared to the strogg. The scopes need to zoom in more and have multiple zoom settings for sniper classes. They should also change the scope on all strogg guns, its like trying to shoot something in doom 2 or something.

Otherwise everything is pretty fun, the vehicles need some tweaking though, maybe better stuff for the marines.

 

Well, it is a beta. I tend to agree with you though. I hate playing GDF because I always get killed 1 vs 1. Even though the Sewers map is heavily biased to the human side, I have much more fun playing Strogg.

Has anyone heard anything about why the bullet impacts sound like BB's hitting cardboard? That's my biggest single gripe about the entire thing. It just.....it sounds ridiculous.

I love playing Oppressor. For those who don't know, both sides have a field artillery class. You get to deploy a fixed position artillery piece and then aim it using a targeting laser. I routinely have the "Most Damage" award at the end of a match. You can do everything with these things, suppress troop movements, take out armor, bombard the enemy base. Everything. I cry a little inside every time the GDF get into the sewer because that means I have to stop raining destruction and go fight in a hole.

i dont think anyone was looking for a ut-killer? ut is pretty aged at this point. not really the same target, in my opinion. ut is sort of like the pinnacle of the old-school shooter. most other games have moved on.

i feel like it could feel a lot better and somehow they missed the mark with this game. it could use a good deal of polish to be brought up to acceptable standards, but I just dont think its better than bf2142, at all... im gonna cry about it, because i REALLY wanted it to be better.

i just feel like with every little thing quake wars tries to do, bf2 / 2142 has already done, but better...

 

well, seeing as ut3 is coming out, and ut2k4 isn't TOO old, I think it is relevant. But that is just my opinion.

 

To enable much higher quality graphics in the beta, type "r_megadrawmethod 0" into the console
