You can always re-download them :) Also to as many computers as you want.

As far as backups go, I keep a copy of my Steam folder on a backup drive. Just so I don't have re-download tons of data.

I only buy games from Steam now.

Great interface, great way to keep in touch with friends and join games with them, great sales almost every week.

    Highly recommended.

Indeed, using Steam's backup option ensures everything is backed-up correctly, including registry settings etc.

The fact that I can reinstall games whenever I want is the main reason I use Steam over competing services. I go to university, and my games are usually at the other end of the country - it's not very realistic for me to take my game discs everywhere. With Steam, I don't need to.

Exactly this - I have an ext HDD with about 70GB of backed up Steam games, although there are a few games on Steam that have 3rd party DRM where you have limited number of installs. Crysis & Crysis Warhead and Risen I know of off top of my head. It will say on the right side of the game store page you're looking at, but most are unlimited installs and re-downloads.

Steam, and pretty much any form of excess moisture or humidity, is bad for your hard drive. I suggest you keep your electronics as far away from steam as you can.

As for Steam, the content delivery service by Valve, it's great.
