I am a happy owner of a hp dv9700t, but i have problems playing games.
I spoke with a geek squad man at best buy today and he did not know if it was possible to upgrade the video card in a laptop.
I have an 8600 gs, but games skip and freeze. he told me that was b/c of the graphics card, but he didnt seem very knowledgeable.
so my question is: is it possible to upgrade the video card in my laptop? Can I pair two together?
It is called a desktop replacement laptop, so idk if that makes any difference.
Specs:
nvidia 8600 gs
intel centrino duo 2.0 ghz
2 gb ram
7400 rpm dual sata hard drives

you laptop only support 1 card and it is soldered onboard. So no, you can't replace it. Please read the sticky next time.
ps. your laptop is far away from "desktop replacement" title. -
99.9% of the time you can't upgrade your GPU in laptops. So i'm pretty sure you can't. What games do you play that skip and freeze?
-
i am sorry, i just found that beautiful sticky, lol i'll give the suggestions a shot, i've tried a lot of things, but there were some new ideas in there.
halo360, unreal tournament 3 and call of duty 4, cod4 is pretty playable but ut3 is horrible, but many of the other games i cant run at high settings such as fear, and combat arms -
what settings are you playing UT3 at? The 8600GS is not a very strong card.
-
The 8600m GS is too under-powered to run a lot of games at High. You could try over-clocking.
-
now that i know that, i really wish i would've put a better gpu in it, but i think i got the best that hp offered.
Thanks anyways guys, sorry about not reading the sticky first, just looking for a quick answer -
overclocking? i heard that that would make my computer fry
-
Well, not with the right babying. I wouldn't suggest it to you though, as it can be dangerous without proper knowledge.
-
-
if i got someone who knows more to do it on my computer, would it work all of the time?
-
forget the overclocking, you are too new to it, plus you will need to manually switch it on/off everytime. update your video drivers might help. http://www.laptopvideo2go.com/forum/index.php?showforum=94

You would have to know how to do it yourself, along with knowing how to monitor your temps, etc. It may not be worth it, as you would only get a 10% boost in performance at most.
Just adjust your in-game settings till the game plays good! -

if i got someone who know how to do it to do it on my pc, would it work all of the time? or do you just do it every time you play?
-
-
sorry about that, missed that it went to the second page

Dell offers an 8600M GT DDR3, which out-performs the 9500M GS.
-
-
ah well, guess i'll be getting far cry 2 on the 360
-
-
It's a great performance card, just filling you in about Dell.
