Guys i took apart my old hp dv6000. I got a question with the heatsink. Can i add AS5 to this gray thermal pad that goes on the head sink?

I'm pretty sure if it has a thermal pad you dont apply paste.

OK i took the heatsink for the cpu off and it has stock foil around it do i remove that and do i have to get the cpu shiny because mine is not shiny.

Ok guys 2 computers later
I managed to get the thermal paste on the old amd processor about 3 and half years old. It was hard to get off but i used a credit card to get the paste off the actual core. I noticed that shes been running a little bit cooler, the only problem is that the gpu runs a little high. Its integrated.
Now for the new dell studio 1537, the thermal paste came right off without alcohol, i just used a qtip to get it off the core then i went over it with alcohol. I noticed a little drop in degrees but nothing that major but then agian i ran it 10 minutes after I applyed it, so its not at optimial cooling.
So people who want to know how to replace thermal paste
1. Take off the heatsink
2. Use a qtip and a little 70 percent alcohol, its rubbing alcohol the one you put on cuts. Rub on heatsink then repeat with core, BUT becareful NOT TO GET ALCHOL ON THE GREEN PART JUST ON THE SHINY and dont apply to much pressure to the core.
3. Go around in circles into paste off, let it dry for safety precautions for about 5 minutes. You might have to use a credit card to get the hard paste out.
4. Apply little pea size paste on the center. Rub it out with the credit card to make it full up the whole core into one thin see.
5. Put back everything, wait 5 minutes then turn on your cooler machine -

Sorry a little more than a grain of rice and yes you have to remove every evidence of thermal greece/pad etc. Lol its the first time i did this and my computer running cooler.
Cheers Mike
