256Mb will be better for latest games that require more then 128Mb Eg: BF2, F.E.A.R. I mean games such as these would still run on a 128Mb card. But the 256Mb will help run these games & Most on importantly on High Resolutions.
I have the X700 256Mb in my Notebook. Thumbs up from me.

Having 256MB of video memory makes a difference in FEAR, Doom 3, Quake 4, etc. because they have large textures and complex scenery. I notice that I use almost all of my 256MB of dedicated memory in my X700 in FEAR with the textures set at high.

See the "Mobile Video Card Comparison Chart" guide at the top of this forum for a more in-depth explanation on video memory.

The Toshiba M70 is the only other laptop I know of with a 256MB X700, but there have been a lot of problems reported with that.

I would go for something better than the X700 right now if you want to game, perhaps wait for the MSI-1039 with the 256MB X1600. Also, there's the Asus W3J in a 14" size, and the A7J (17"), both with 256MB X1600s.

Ah yes, I forgot about those - the 1694 and the 5024 Aspires have them (non-US) and the 9500 series has them in the US.
