I'm in need of some offline RPG action :)

I've played Oblivion, WoW, and Overlord... played the first Neverwinter Nights that gets boring though because the action is just too slow...(too much reading)..

What else can I play? :)

If you dont mind pay (MMORPG)

Dungeons and Dragons Online was fun, but requires LOTS of time!

Dark Messiah is kinda RPGish...its made by valve.

ALSO Ultima Online FTW!! you can pay to play OR play for free on custom shards which are great!...i did that for about 1.5 years :)

Kinda wanted to move away from paying for a while, just to save the money...

I played Anarchy Online for a few years both free and then upgraded...fun for a while, but it doesn't have the long term value...

Wow I quit about a year ago when my babies (twin girls) were born...haha, didnt foresee any 5 hour raids in my future and I was correct! lol

i Say Ultima Online On Custom Servers then!

Ah yES DIABLO 2 ;) i forgot...you have to buy the game....so many years wasted on that game lol....like all junior high, and begining of highschool...then i found Counter-strike!

If you like Oblivion ,Two Worlds and Gothic 3 are very good rpg
If you prefer action-rpg try Fable
Also if you like dark atmosphere Vampire Bloodlines is a rpg-masterpiece
Dark messiah is not an rpg...it's a diablo-fps with nice graphics but not a rpg...

Titan Quest and Dungeon Siege II are good free RPGs. Two Worlds isn't bad either.

2nd Morrowind being better than Oblivion (at least without mods.....)

Also try Baulder's Gate 2. ---can be found for $9.00 or less, new.

I really liked Two Worlds and Gothic III, I felt they were somewhat similar. They're kinda buggy, though.

Dark Messiah isn't actually made by Valve...just sold on steam.

Plus Hellgate: London comes out in like 29 days :p

Check out The Witcher when it comes out, should be published during this month. I'm expecting it to be something like Fable + 1/3 of Vampire Bloodlines.

Unfortunatly the PC has a rather bad RPG market for single player RPG's, but the best for MMORPG's.

The remedy? dont play PC RPGs.

I have been playing Chrono Cross latley and its great so far, and qued up to play next I have legend of dragoon, secret of mana, siekendensetsu 3, legend of mana, ect. PC's can emulate other systems. I have a SNES, Playstaion, N64, and Arcade emulator with well over XXXX games to play on my notebook. Plus the classics offer a certain something to me that new games just dont have.

its totally legal too as long as you own the system and the game, if you dont... well thats your business. Just google around for the stuff.

i'm addicted to TES: Oblivion...it is omg nice. especially if you are a fan of visual appeal...you can't go wrong with this. gameplay is simple but for some reason i love it. It's like having the top 10 FHM models in armor...

Hellgate London is going to have a single player component, as well as online play. According to wikipedia you can get the "vanilla" version ( or whatever they call it ) and have limited access to online play, or you can pay a monthly fee or a large flat rate for more access. It's supposed to be similar to Guild Wars in the sense that everything will be instanced. I'm definitely going to buy it for the single player and if online is good I'll consider it.

I love Gothic III, if you like the story I recommend the first 2, Gothic I had some weird ( some say bad ) controls, but I loved it.

that's kind of subjective, Vicious, the only console RPG I ever really got into was Legend of Legia or something. Maybe the absolute current RPG situation isn't great, but I think over the past 5 years there have been some great ones that have come out.

I have oblivion, i was confused when you put TES in there I thought it was a mod for female skins or something.

I didnt care for it much, it got boring fast. I only liked the dark brotherhood thing, wich is why I think the new assassin game may be fun.

visuals dont make a game in my book, the gameplay does.

One I've just started playing is Tabula Rasa - still in beta, but scheduled to come out towards end of this month/beginning of November. If you buy the game you can enter the beta. It's fun - I have very little time for gaming but so far soloing has been very doable and even 30min-1hr slots have been enough to get me to progress and I'm enjoying it so far :)

I also suggest Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. Not only do I think it is better than Oblivion, it's one of my favorite games of all time and my favorite RPG of all time. If you can get past the dated graphics, weak combat & AI, you'll find it's a MUCH deeper experience than Oblivion.

Which Neverwinter Nights, eg. 1 or 2? If 1, you check out 2. Also, I find NWN has enough reading to make the stories deep.

You might try some older games, such as Baldur's Gate 2, Icewind, Planescape, or Temple of Evil. The graphics will not impress but they have alot of the RPG elements.

I would also suggest Baldur's Gate 1/2 if you haven't played them yet. They are few of the best offline fantasy RPGs ever made. Especially now since there's several mods that make it even better with more challenging enemy AI, new side quests, enemies, items, spells, character classes etc.. Also with a certain mod, BG1 is now playable with BG2 engine, thus making it much more enjoyable game than with it's old 800x600 engine.

Well, it's just that the NPCs don't have schedules like in Oblivion. They just stay in one general area and don't really do anything. Monsters and enemies and stuff are pretty much what you would expect.

Guild Wars is good for mindless online (no monthly charge) mmoprg.. it's good fun but essentially kill the baddies scoop the loot, put fancy armour on, kill bigger baddies scoop more loot ad infinitum... that said it is good to say there's no monthly fee and there is a story of sorts, tho it doesn't play a huge part in it really!

I've been tempted reinstalling Baldurs Gate 2 or Icewinddale or Planescape Torment for old times sake recently.. jeez I tell ya how scary can a 1" tall bad guy be? ... in a word.. Very!!

Arx Fatalis is good.. again it's a bit old but some of the better ones are. I've not come across many that compare to the best of the old ones.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic and it's sequel were supposed to be good too but I can only vouch for the first and I got a little bored towards the end if I'm honest.

I'm sure I'm forgetting a good one I've played somewhere but can't think what it is at the mo.. I can see the graphics in my mind but can't put a name to it... must be my age lol

Yes most definitely KOTOR, very fun. Oblivion is good, NWN is good and there are a lot of modules you can get for it, some may not be as slow too. Icewind Dale, Baldurs Gate, Morrowind, Fallout. I've heard guild wars is good... Also Wizardry... X-Men 2 is good, more of a action-rpg but good nonetheless... Have you heard of Jagged Alliance 2? It is more of a turn based sqaud, action rpg. It has a very good mod for it that makes it soo much better. Good game

I definitly suggest you try KOTOR. I never played the first one but I loved KOTOR 2. I really enjoy Sacred as well. It's like Diablo 2, same kind of gameplay but it has a little more depth than diablo 2. I believe Sacred 2 will be released sometime next year and it looks awsome. Hellgate: London looks to be a great game, releases October 30th. That's all that's coming to mind right now.

I really liked Gothic 3 but a real bug fest with breaking quests, so, unable to finish it. I quit a while back, I'l wait a while to restart a new game.

I'm finishing up NWN2, fun - but long re-loads. I had a time getting the Construct quest to finish, it seems that you have to have the right characters involved and hold your sword just right ;)

Looking forward to some of the newer ones mentioned in this thread!

One Quic note on Baldurs Gate 2, you may find the interface very dated and harder to play vs. newer games. I tried it again after NWN, and I wanted to kick the computer.

KOTOR 1 is faaaaar better than the Sith Lords (KOTOR 2).

Knights of the Old Republic is an RPG that absolutely should not be missed. And strangely enough, the graphics in KOTOR 1 are better than in the sequel.

In my opinion, Baldur's Gate 2 is the best RPG ever made. However, the graphics are so dated by now that I'm not sure I would recommend it.

In some ways KOTOR 1 is better, for instance it has a slightly better storyline and seemed more polished. But I liked the storyline and extra content for KOTOR 2, some of the stuff they added really enhanced the game, such as the extra customization you could do. As far as the graphics go, I didn't notice any difference, same engine so I imagine very similar graphics...
