people i am thinking of buying laptop dv 6114 whose config is 1.6 Ghz dual core,1 gb ram,15.4 inches, nvidia 7400.

i would like to know whether this laptop will able to run games like doom3 ,hl2 ,quake 4,fear etc. Also i saw on nvidia site that go 7400 has performance similar to nvidia 7300 GT . So can i compare their performances ,like what i get with 7300 is similar to go 7400. Also tell me if this pc is capable of running windows vista smoothly.

Yes, it is quite capable of running Vista smoothly, and it can play all the games you mentioned at High settings, Except for Fear which can be played at medium settings.

Quake 4 and HL 2 will srun VERY fast since you have dual core. Well, for HL2 you will have to wait for the patch coming very soon (Game will run fast now though). I think you can play Quake 4 for example, full settings at like 80fps with the dual core.

Are you serious that a 7400 and Core 2 Duo can max out quake 4 and HL2??

I heard in Quake 4 you get a 50% boost in performance using a dual core. So I figure if you can run it at 30FPS on a single core, with dual you should get about 60FPS.

The point is i've heard performance was very high with dual cores and Quake 4. People getting from 60-80 average FPS.

Half Life 2 (and all source games) is getting a patch soon that will boost performance a ton with dual core machines.

hl2 you can max out at 1280x800 but you can't go AA or else fps goes down the toilet

    same with quake 4

having dual core can only boost your fps until it is gpu limited and i doubt that a 7400, which is almost equivalent to a 7300gs, that it can max out quake 4 and still maintain 80fps.

lets not forget that the fps mainly depends on gpu. a processor only does the physics and ai

    check this link: http://www.firingsquad.com/hardware/quake_4_dual-core_performance/page3.asp

when they tested the dual core enabled patch on quake at 1600x1200 with 6xaa and 6xaf, the game became gpu limited.

though true that that is much higher settings then what you will play at, but you also have to note that their test system is a DESKTOP x1800xt, which is many many many times better then the 7400 go.

i'd wouldn't imagine a gain of 50% fps at 1280x800 high setting quake 4 just because you have a 7400 go, especially when you turn on AA

Good stats. Weird how low AOEIII is... I used to play that on my old PC (P4 1.8Ghz, geforce 3) at like 25-30FPS, at a mix of high and med details.

Half Life 2 should go up after the patch.

    To throw in some more...

    I have Go7400, 2.0GHz C2D, and 2GB 667 memory.

America's Army - 1280*800, all highest settings, AA off.
avg fps - 60-80 indoors. Outdoors it's usually a solid 30 and never sinks below that. But on some outdoor maps I get 40-50fps.

I played around with my Nvidia Control Panel so that i can get the best out of my video card. These are my settings on the Nvidia Control Panel:

    - I found no image difference when i changed the "Image Settings" from high performance to high quality

    Anything missing?

It's probably possible, but there might be some chug. To be sure, I'd get a notebook with something in the X1600/Go7600 range.

i'll probably wouldn't get the Go7400 now. I would choose a laptop with X1600/X1700/Go7600/Go7700 or above those.

You can play fear on med settings and 1280*960 res with 25-40 fps with the Go7400

Wow, ASUS 7400 Go config screen is different than SZ. Stupid Sony never update their video drivers.

    Question

Do I have to use the drivers provided by Sony?

no you dont have to use the drivers provided by sony if you search for your card and find an updated version of the drivers you should be fine... or to make things even easier you could try right clicking on the my computer icon then hitting manage then go to devices and go to the video adapters and right click on the video card under there and hit "update..." then have it search the web for one

    fear combat - medium - 25-40fps
    conterstrike source - max 22-30fps
    quake 4 - high - 50-60fps

no, don't have to use the sony driver. it is probably outdated now. I tried installing a few drivers to find the best one and 84.63 is the one i use and is the best driver for the Go7400

Gotei you are so lying. There is NO way you can play HL2 @ max quality. What resolution are we talking here (800x600??). Your telling me you can turn on reflect all, detailed shadows, 4x AA/16x AF??? my card is better then a 7400 on my laptop and i cant play HL2 any higher then 0x AA/4x AF, reflect world, all the rest high without the graphics card locking up or not getting above 50fps at 1280x800 resolution (i score 2500 in 3dmark05).

To the guy who said he gets 55-75fps at 1440x900 on max quality i'd really love to see a screenshot of your video stress test, cause your giving false information and people will be disappointed
