I cleaned off the old thermal paste fairly good some remained.....then i put a blob in the middle of the gpu die....then a line fairly thick for the cpu it was ICD24. my idle temps for gpu are at 48c and 78c gaming with overclock. cpu howeveris through the roof idleing with a cm sf 17 notebook cooler and turbo fans on at 61c i cant get the dang cpu temps down. ambeint room temperature is 20c. do you think i just put too much ICD24 on the cpu or maybe not cleaning it good enough? what do you guys figure?

is my laptop a bad model for cooling or is it my paste job?

The model might not offer the best cooling, and even 4720hq is often better off undervolted to help with temps. What are your temps right now when gaming? Are you throttling?

Also, you are supposed to put very slim/small amount of paste. a slim line, not a thick line.

i think its the notebook i re applied and did the best job i could based on various pictures from this forum/...and the results are im still hitting high 80s and its throttling....i undervolted as per suggested and have only seen a negligible drop in temperatures. 1c 2c 3c. msi isnt exactly known for its cooling...

so as a warning if your planning on buying a ge62 2qe apache from msi and want to have a fast cpu....think again as you will most likely have to downclock it to 3ghz....now that might seem horrible but you wont notice a hit in performance or games. only with cpu bound applications...so basically nothing...but you will have to do this regardless

How weird that you are thermally throtting at 80s. Mine does not begin throttling until around 93 Celsius. I've since run the system with -50mv undervolt at 3.6ghz, reduced processor cache ratio to 30, undervolted processor cache and even with my current high ambient temps, I rarely see 90 degrees at all, usually 86-88 on taxing games like running maxed overwatch at 110fps continous.

The whole intel line is a scam and most core i7 mobile notebooks cannot maintain any sort of clockspeeds. they cover this by saying your base speed is something like 2.6ghz and thats what they "guarantee" and any turbo speed depends on the system etc. To the point that notebooks with lousy cooling like my lenovo T540p can't maintain 3.1ghz for its life, and it comes with a core i7 4800mq. Why the hell is that CPU even offered if it can't reach basic Core i7 speeds...

    Marketing.

yeah i have to agree....and i have no clue as to why it throttles at 87c

Some OEM's put in a lower throttle point than Intel's own spec for i7.

Well that is already getting pretty warm. What are your ambient temps like? Are you in an air conditioned room? Are you using the cooler boost function and running fans full speed? Is that laptop a single or dual fan? My GE62 is dual and runs around mid 50s CPU and mid 60s GPU when my 970m is overclocked a fair bit and on stock fans speeds and stock paste. Much much lower when the fan is turned on manual with the button. No reason why your laptop is getting so warm.

It could be anything. Shared heatsink for one of it has one.

Shared heatsink will never give 100% fit on components! If so, you're very lucky. This is one of the problems with thin chassis.

yeah it is all one chunk of cooling shared heatsink ect.

Talon I think the fact you have an I5 is the reason your temps are cooler. If i ran i5 speeds I get around 73c

If your heat sinks are making good contact and they have copper surfaces, go for Liquid Metal Ultra.
