I have overclocked my 8600gt to 576/459 (3d performance) but routinely i see the memory jump to 799hz for no reason. This normally happens when im not in a game... my card temp is always 42-59 C so what is going on?

Your exceeding the threshold limit of the card I suppose. After certain frequencies my card did the same thing. It would clock down to 168/800 and stay there until I restarted the computer.

This is all speculation but I think its the card trying to protect itself from going too high. Are you yousing the 169/04 drivers? For some unexplained reason my card stopped doing that. I don't know if it was the drivers or what but all it does now is artifact when the frequencies are too high.

Edit:Oh nevermind this is not in game. I gotta read more carefully. Homecoming celebrations are getting to me.

turn power miser off in nvidia control panel, then use rivatuner to monitor and youl see the clock reading will be proper (always in 3d performance, since no powermiser is working)

this doesnt mean powermiser is faulty, its just rivatuner cant read clocks properly with it enabled...however ntune will read the clocks perfectly
